JAVA Development Toolkit Plug-in Blocked

As mentioned earlier today there is an Important JAVA Update available for all platforms, but more importantly for people using 32-bit versions of Windows. Now, Mozilla is blocking the JAVA Development Toolkit versions 6.0.200.0 and older. The reason is due to a security voluntarily as described in Bug 558584. Firefox users with this version(s) of the plug-in installed with see a dialog box informing them the plug-in has been blocked and to restart the browser so it can be disabled. Most Firefox users are not going to miss this plugin as it is used for developing JAVA Applications. As long…

Add-ons Compilations added to Wiki

Over the past four years since this blog was started, we have posted various Add-ons Compilations or ‘collections’ of add-ons with a common theme. With nearly 1200 posts and nearly 200 of those in the ‘Add-ons’ category it can be somewhat difficult to locate these collections. To solve this issue, we have now added a new section to The Firefox Extension Guru’s Wiki. Introducing the Add-on Compilations, a complete list of all the collections that have been mentioned on the blog.

Send A Bulk Email as BCC

Last month I received an email for a nearly dedicated Thunderbird user. I say nearly dedicated because they were still using Eudora to send out monthly club emails. The club has a strict policy that their email addresses will not be shared. They were unable to find an easy way to send out to the group where all the recipients were BCC (Blind Carbon Copy). Sure each recipient added to the message could be changed to ‘Bcc’, but with around 50 recipients this was time consuming and a good chance of accidentally leaving one or more of the recipients set…

Stuck on Firefox 3.6.3pre

After my earlier Firefox Lorentz Beta Released post, I noticed something didn’t seem quite right with my Firefox nightly build. For one thing I had not seen the Mozilla Runtime Environment (mozilla-runtime.exe) kicking in for Flash sites. I also kept noticing that every time I would get an update offer I was being informed Chrome Edit Plus add-on was not compatible and would be disabled. Also each time thought I had updated when Firefox restarted I would get an updated noticed for 3.6.4pre but when I went to install I would get an error about not being able to find…
