Add to Search Bar

The big buzz on the tech front today is about Firefox jumping the Google ship for Yahoo.[Link]It will be another change I will hardly notice as I don’t use the default search in any case.I have been using the “Add to Search Bar” extension for a long time. I have 10 different searches on it currently and although one is Yahoo I seldom use it.Also 4 different Google searches including the image search that loads the old style search.I haven’t checked on my regular FF install but I notice on PaleMoon the extension is still at 2.0 although it is…

Update: Provider for Google Calendar 1.0.x

Well, I discovered on Monday (November 17th) Google changed the calendar sign-in API. This now breaks the older version of the Provider for Google Calendar add-on. However, I was able to get all my calendars to work (for the most part) with Thunderbird/Lightning now. I linked/subscribed my school and US Holiday calendars to my main GMail account. The setup process is much simpler now with the newer version of Provider for Google Calendar. You no longer need to supply your calendar’s public/private XML address. Instead, you will be prompted to enter (or choose) the Gmail address associated with your calendar. The next…

Firefox and POODLE Attack

Google researchers announced recently of the POODLE (Padding Oracle On Downgraded Legacy Encryption) Attack which hackers take advantage of sites (around 0.3%) still using the outdated (introduced in 1996) SSLv3 security protocol. Mozilla has announced that SSLv3 will be disabled, unfortunately it won’t be until Firefox 34 which will be released on November 25th. However, user can (and are urged to) install the SSL Version Control extension which will disable SSLv3 on the fly. Provider for Google Calendar 1.0.x Issues

The developer has attempted to make setting up your Google Calendars in Lightning easier with the 1.0.x versions of Provider for Google Calendar. Unfortunately, this change may not work with certain Google Calendars. While this worked for my main calendar directly tied to a real Gmail address, it did not work for my school calendar. My school calendar is tied to the domain of my college district (maricopa.edu) which uses Google API for email, calendar and other Google services. The problem seems to be…
