Thunderbird 38.1.0 Coming Soon?

There are some regressions causing delays for the release of Thunderbird 38.1.0 (which was planned for June 30th). On 06/22/15 in TB-planning Kent posted: The current plan for Thunderbird 38.1.0 is to land patches on Monday, June 29 and try to release at the end of that week. This will have a number of fixes to regressions that were uncovered in the initial release. Two weeks later the first Release Candidate (RC) for 38.1.0 has been pushed out for the testers. If everything goes well with this RC then we could see the release of Thunderbird 38.1.0 by the end of…

After each major update there is always some people who are confused by the numbering scheme used for Thunderbird. Common question is why did the version number just jump up by 7? Thunderbird follows the Firefox ESR release numbering which means there is major release every 48 weeks or 7 regular updates of Firefox/Gecko. So, next big update will be Thunderbird 45 in March 2016. This is the tentative schedule for the next year: June 30th: Thunderbird 38.1.0 (Gecko 39) August 11th: Thunderbird 38.2.0 (Gecko 40) September 22nd: Thunderbird 38.3.0 (Gecko 41) November 3rd: Thunderbird 38.4.0 (Gecko 42) December 15th: Thunderbird 38.5.0…

Have received some inquires as to what is going on with Thunderbird 38 which was suppose to be released on May 12th, but was pushed back to May 26th because of some critical bugs. Checking around in mozillaZine today I saw Beta 6 was pushed out earlier today. Otherwise no info as to when the release version will be pushed out.

Contact the developer last night about the issue with Identity Chooser 1.8.2 not working with Thunderbird 20 Beta. Received an email earlier today with version 1.8.3 which works fine now with Thunderbird 20 Beta. Version 1.8.3 has already been released on AMO or you can update via your Thunderbird Add-ons Manager by right-clicking on the add-on and selecting Find Updates.

It appears the Identity Chooser add-on (version 1.8.2) and Thunderbird 20 Beta (to be released as Thunderbird 17.0.5 on April 2nd) do not play well together. I discovered I could only reply to messages. I was no longer able to compose, forward or ‘edit as new’ (though never used that feature) a message. Also could not change the sending account in a message I was replying. After disabling the add-on, everything appears to be working as it should. After checking on AMO and seeing there was not a newer version on the development channel, I contacted the developer letting him know of the issues. I…

As mentioned in the Thunderbird 20 Beta Release post, there was an issue with Lightning 2.2b1 and Provider for Google Calendar 0.18 versions. Provider for Google Calendar 0.21pre fixes issues with the add-on not communicating/authenticating with the Google servers. The updated add-on can be downloaded from here then installed over the old 0.18 version.

*DEVELOPMENTAL RELEASE* Mozilla released the first Beta for the upcoming Thunderbird 20 on March 8th, 2013. Lightning Users: if you are using Google Calendar with Lightning, you should wait on this update. Either Thunderbird 20 Beta 1 or Lightning 2.2beta1 seems to break the Google Calendar integration (even with version 0.18 of Provider for Google Calendar extension). Users will be continuously prompted to enter their Google Calendar (gmail) password, which suggests there is an authentication or communication issue between Thunderbird and the Google Calendar server. Fixes in Thunderbird 20 Beta 1 include Emails can now be sent to IDN based email addresses (bug 127399) along with various…
