Thunderbird 45 Released

Mozilla released the next major update for Thunderbird on April 12th, 2016. Thunderbird 45. There are many changes and fixes in this version which can be viewed in the Release Notes. One of the most noticeable changes is the addition of Correspondents column combining Sender and Recipient with an arrow on the left side of the email address. I don’t understand the purpose of this and even more so after reading Bug 36489 which dates back to almost 16-years ago (April 20, 2000). Frankly, I don’t like the change. Thunderbird 38.5.1 Released

Mozilla released an update to the Thunderbird 38.5.x branch on January 7th, 2016. Thunderbird 38.5.1 is for Windows users and implemented using a SHA-256 signing certificate for Windows builds, to meet new signing requirements. This was the final step of the replacing the now deprecated (as of 01/01/2016) SHA-1 signing certificates. Windows XP SP2 users: You can not update from Thunderbird 38.4.0 (or older) to 38.5.0 automatically. Mozilla released the next update to the Thunderbird 38 branch on December 23rd with Thunderbird 38.5 release. Thunderbird 38.4.0 Released

Mozilla has released the next update on the Thunderbird 38.x branch with Thunderbird 38.4.0 on November 25th. A cached version of the release notes shows a release date of November 23rd and currently the page is bringing up a Mozilla 404 page. For those user who have Lightning installed, the add-on should auto-update to version 4.0.4 when Thunderbird is updated. Mozilla released the next scheduled update for the Thunderbird 38.x branch with 38.2.0 on August 14, 2015. There have been some changes to this version for increased stability. CHANGED: Hardware acceleration is now disabled by default to avoid crashing Thunderbird FIXED: A few bugs have been fixed to avoid crashing Thunderbird UNRESOLVED: The “maildir” storage type can no longer be set through the UI due to various issues. Mozilla has released the next installment of the Thunderbird 38.x branch on July 9, 2015. Thunderbird 38.1.0 contains underlying code that is Firefox 38.1.0 esr. Some of the fixes and issues in this release include: FIXED – Copy/Paste into plain text editor deletes newlines from quoted text (bug 1143570) FIXED –  OAuth2 authentication for GMail does not work when specified server is imap.gmail.com or smtp.gmail.com. Thunderbird 38.x.x Info

First, updates from Thunderbird 31.7.0 to Thunderbird 38.0.1 via Help > About Thunderbird are now active as I just updated one my machines. Important to note you must have 31.7.0 (released May 12th) in order to update to Thunderbird 38.0.1 as the machine only had Thunderbird 31.6.0 on it. After updating to 31.7.0 then it download the full 30+ MB update for Thunderbird 38.0.1 version. In regards to the version numbering. Mozilla has released the next major update for Thunderbird with the release of Thunderbird 38.0.1 on June 11th. Note, there was NOT a Thunderbird 38.0.0 release due to several bugs (which were addressed and fixed with the 38.0.1 release).
