Thunderbird 17

If you have been trying to import your emails from MS Eudora or Outlook with the current Thunderbird 38.x branch you likely have run into problems. Contact the developer last night about the issue with Identity Chooser 1.8.2 not working with Thunderbird 20 Beta. Received an email earlier today with version 1.8.3 which works fine now with Thunderbird 20 Beta. Version 1.8.3 has already been released on AMO or you can update via your Thunderbird Add-ons Manager by right-clicking on the add-on and selecting Find Updates.

It appears the Identity Chooser add-on (version 1.8.2) and Thunderbird 20 Beta (to be released as Thunderbird 17.0.5 on April 2nd) do not play well together. I discovered I could only reply to messages. I was no longer able to compose, forward or ‘edit as new’ (though never used that feature) a message. Also could not change the sending account in a message I was replying. After disabling the add-on, everything appears to be working as it should. After checking on AMO and seeing there was not a newer version on the development channel, I contacted the developer letting him know of the issues. I…

No Auto-Update to Thunderbird 17.0.2esr

Due to Mozilla skipping the 17.0.1esr branch for Thunderbird, automatic updates to this version will not work at this time. Users have two options, download and manually install Thunderbird 17.0.2esr over 17.0.0esr or wait until February 19th when Thunderbird 17.0.3esr will be released with a patch to address this update issue. Note: This does not affect the regular (non-organization) version of Thunderbird. User can auto-update from Thunderbird 17.0.0 to 17.0.2 via Help > About Thunderbird and clicking the Check for updates button.

Due to the changes in the development plans for Thunderbird announced last year, Mozilla has changed the numbering scheme of future Thunderbird releases. Most of us were expecting to see Thunderbird 18 (built off of Gecko 18) released on January 8th, but instead were updated to 17.0.2 version. Future Thunderbird releases for the most part are going to be maintenance updates and not actually being built off a new version of Gecko has been the case since the introduction of RapidRelease back in May 2011. The numbering is now going to follow that of The Thunderbird ESR (extended support release) aka Thunderbird for Organizations which…
