That’s right, for those of you (and there are many) that haven’t upgraded to Firefox 3 yet, because it is too much trouble will be offered an automatic upgrade as early as the evening of Monday, August 25th. According to the MozillaWiki: Releases, the Major Update for Firefox 2.0.0.16 to 3.0.1 is (at this time) scheduled to land around 7:00 PM PDT/10:00 PM EDT on Monday, August 25th.
However, I have my doubts about this release date, only because it is very untypically of Mozilla to do a release on a Monday. Normally everything is prepped and loaded on to the servers the night before. Mozilla engineers typically doesn’t work on weekends, unless there is a major issue or they have a definitive deadline they need to meet. But, given the release time is scheduled for 7:00 PM PDT / 10:00 PM EDT this does look promising.
Nonetheless, I should have confirmation Monday afternoon after the Weekly Update meeting.
On more thing, this upgrade is optional and should you choose to decline it at this time, you should be presented with another offer in September or October to go from Firefox 2.0.0.17 to 3.0.2
