Firefox 3.6.4 has just been released by the developers after a longer than usual wait time. The new version of the web browser comes with out-of-process plugins enabled. This feature basically runs plugins in their own process to increase the stability and security of the browser. By default, only Silverlight, Flash and Quicktime are making use of this feature. Every other plugin is still running in the main Firefox process. With the long awaited releases of both Firefox 3.5.10 and Firefox 3.6.4 earlier this week, it seemed as if it were too much to hope for a Firefox 4.0 (formally 3.7) release today. Indeed it was, Mozilla is not going push out the first beta of Firefox 4 today or likely anytime soon. The Mozilla Releases page now has the release date as ‘TBD’. Release Candidate 1 is still scheduled for October 2010.
