Mozilla Kills 64-Bit Windows Firefox Development

Mozilla Engineering Manager Benjamin Smedberg had started a discussion on Google Groups about ceasing development of Windows 64-Bit builds last Friday (November 23rd). There are a couple useful extensions that will undo the UI changes introduced in Thunderbird 17 as well as the changes to the tabs back with Thunderbird 11. UPDATE: There was a typo in the preference name published earlier the correct preference name is mail.tabs.drawInTitlebar. This works on all versions of Windows, not just XP There are some scattered reports that Windows XP users are having issues with the new ‘Draw Tabs in Title Bar’ feature as part of the updated UI aka Australia project. Something got botched with either Bug 771816 or 775793 resulting in a messed up and unusable UI. Thunderbird 17 – Lighting/Provider for Google Calendar

Lightning will auto-update to version 1.9 when Thunderbird checks add-on compatibility during the update. However, Goggle Calendar users will need to manually update to Provider for Google Calendar add-on to version 0.18 in order to get their Google Calendar(s) to work again in Thunderbird 17. To update go to Tools > Add-ons > Extensions > select Lighting and right-click and select Find Updates. After restart your Google Calendar(s) will show up in Thunderbird again.

Mozilla Responds to Tab Mix Plus Issues

Mozilla issued this statement on their add-ons blog earlier today in light of the issues with TMP and Firefox 17, The popular Tab Mix Plus extension is causing some problems for users in Firefox 17. The problems include broken menu items – like the one that opens the Add-ons Manager – and broken links in Firefox windows, like the About dialog. This extension broke due to bug 761723, and a fixed version hasn’t been released to AMO yet. I am not a big fan of Tab Mix Plus (TMP) may be because I hear of so many issues it causes with Firefox. Yet it is by far one of the most popular add-ons for Firefox.
