After over six-months of on again, off again and lawsuits…Tesla and SpaceX’s Elon Musk finally closed the deal on purchasing Twitter on Thursday, October 27th. The final price tag of tag of the merger between Twitter and Musk’s subsidiary X Holdings II, Inc. was $44B USD. What does this mean for the 16-year old once publicly held company? Rumors have been flying over the past week, some propagated by Musk himself including laying off 75% of the staff. Here is break-down of the recent news before and after Musk’s take-over/merger of Twitter:
- Elon Musk reportedly tells Twitter he won’t lay off 75 percent of staff. There will still be layoffs, just not the 75% as he had said prior.
- Whatever amount layoffs there are going to be, they likely are going to be announced on Monday, October 31st.
- Soon as the merger was done Elon Musk fires current Twitter CEO, CFO, Legal Chief and General Counsel upon completing deal. Basically, anyone on the executive board who didn’t get along with Musk.
- Bring out the Trolls! Hate speech increased dramatically on the social media platform hours after Musk took over Twitter.
- Late Friday, Musk announced Twitter is going to form a ‘moderation council’ to review and likely reverse permeant bans on accounts such as those of former President Donald Trump. No word yet on when this would happen and how exactly it would work.
- This purposed ‘moderation council’ could be damage control as Musk told advertisers on Thursday, Twitter ‘cannot become a free-for-all hellscape’
- Nonetheless, Tesla’s rival General Motors has stopped adverting on Twitter after Musk completed the purchase. GM says they want to first understand the direction of the new ownership and it said it’s normal for the company to pause paid advertising in the face of a “significant change in a media platform.”
- Since Twitter is no longer a publicly owned company, it will be delisted from the New York Stock Exchanged on Tuesday, November 8th.
- With all that is happening with Twitter, many people may want to remove their Twitter Accounts, but don’t want to loose their Tweets. Here’s how to download a backup copy of all your Tweets.
We will continue to follow the happenings of Twitter and are expecting a lot of new come Monday as it being the last day of the month. Stay tuned…
