Chrome Conundrums

As I mentioned, I use Chrome for flash based games and the browser is great. However there are two behaviours that have puzzle me about Chrome. When the application is maximized I can not access the Windows Task Bar (set on auto-hide) by putting my mouse at the bottom of the screen. Yes, I can still get to the Task Bar via the Windows Key. If Chrome is in the foreground (active application), Windows will not activate the power-save mode on my monitor after the normal period of inactivity. If Chrome is in the background (and even if it is…

IE Market Share slipped in 2009

From The Microsoft Blog: In one short year, Google’s Chrome Web browser tripled its market share. In December, it overtook Apple Safari as the third-place browser as the reigning leader, Microsoft Internet Explorer, continued slipping during 2009. According to Net Applications, Chrome ended 2009 with a claim on 4.63 percent of the market, after starting out at just 1.52 percent. During the same period, Safari and Mozilla Firefox also each gained market share, chipping away at IE’s still-dominant hold on the browser market. Hide Menu Bar in Firefox 3.6

For those needing more screen space, starting with the Beta 5 Release of Firefox 3.6, Windows users can now hide the Menu Bar. To hide the Menu Bar, right-click on an empty area in the toolbars and uncheck Menu Bar to hide. If you need to access the menu bar, simply press the ALT key and the menu bar will re-appear temporarily. Firefox 3.5 users can also hide their Menu Bar, but will need an extension such as Personal Menu or Compact Menu 2 (note: I have not used either of these extensions so I can not say if one…

Fix YouTube ‘Jumpiness’ In Firefox

Some users may have noticed that YouTube videos can be slightly ‘jumpy’ in Firefox. Cain’t say I have or have not noticed this issue, may be I just thought it was normal. Anyway this problem started with Firefox 2 which introduced the Session Restore feature. Many users, myself included, visit YouTube on an almost daily basis. Ever since Firefox version 2.0 implemented the session restore function, when you are watching a video on YouTube (perhaps on other video sites as well, I haven’t really tested that), you may notice a tiny freeze-up of the video every 10 seconds or so….
