Firefox 2.0.0.19 losing Antiphishing Protection

I first reported with the Mozilla Project Weekly Status: December 1st, the upcoming Firefox 2.0.0.19 release is not going to have the Antiphishing Protection that was introduced with Firefox 2 back in 2006. According to an article on Computerworld Security, the feature is being remove by Google’s request because the older browser line uses an obsolete protocol. “The Phishing Protection feature in Firefox 2 relies on data provided by Google via the first version of the SafeBrowsing protocol,” said Beltzner, who explained that Google and Mozilla had worked together to update the protocol, first to SafeBrowsing v2.1 late last year,…

Firefox 3.1 Beta 2 & 3 News

Earlier this week I was alerted by Grand Stream Dreams’ Claus the possibility there was going to be a Firefox 3.1 Beta 3.  Well, I am currently (and not sure for how long) using Shiretoko 3.1 Beta 3 Pre. As for Beta 2, still no release date other than “due out very shortly.” At least that is what Mozilla programmer Ben Turner said Thursday.  There is a new feature in the works that there has not been much press about, Web workers. Here is some background from CNet Business Tech: One big change in the 3.1b2 is the addition of…

Major Update to Fx 3.0.4 Released

Mozilla has released today the Major Update allowing Firefox 2.0.0.18 users to upgrade to Firefox 3.0.4.  Users should be offered the upgrade option in the next couple days. Alternatively, users can also get the update by selecting the Check For Updates option via the Help menu. Either way, users will be presented with a prompt similar to this: Later: Firefox will ask again in 24 hours Never: Decline the upgrade offer.  You may get another offer again in the future, but it won’t be for several weeks or months Get the new version: Upgrades to Firefox 3.0.4 As a reminder,…

Firefox 3.1 Beta 3?

As we await for the release of Firefox 3.1 Beta 2 (schedule for sometime this month), comes talk that there may be a Beta 3 release. According to this article from Linux World: Previous schedules published by Mozilla had limited Firefox 3.1 to only two betas before moving to a release candidate. In a long post to the “mozilla.dev.planning” forum, Mike Beltzner, the director of Firefox, said that Beta 3 is necessary to get a feel for the severity of the remaining bugs and an idea of how long it will take developers to eradicate them. In addition, another beta…

Microsoft/Yahoo: Microsoft in Talks Again?

While nothing official has been released by Microsoft, The Times of London is reporting Microsoft Corp. has resumed its pursuit of Yahoo in a deal that could cost the Redmond-based company $20 billion, less than half of what it offered for the search site this summer. Microsoft has put forward Jonathan Miller, ex-chairman and chief executive of AOL, and Ross Levinsohn, a former president of Fox Interactive Media, to lead a new management team at Yahoo under a 10-year agreement. Microsoft would have a two-year option to buy Yahoo outright for $20 billion. The report also says senior management at…

BYIR: January, February & March 2008

January 2008 With the start of 2008 came a handy “how-to” guide for moving Netscape 9 users to Firefox 2. Recall, AOL had announced they would discontinue support for Netscape 9 (based off of Firefox 2) in February 2008. While the below “We Remove Vista…” photo was taken back in October 2007 at A&D Computer in Milford, NH it appeared in Todd Bishop’s Microsoft Blog (now The Microsoft Blog) in late January. Included in January were three Add-Ons Reviews. Organize Search Engines, allowed Firefox users with lots of search engines a better management system to keep their search engines organized….
