Firefox 3.6.26 Released

Mozilla has released the next version of Firefox 3.6 on Tuesday, January 31st. Firefox 3.6.26 fixed several security issues and stability issues. Existing Firefox 3.6.x users should be prompted for an update within the next 24-48 hours. However, users may be able to update manually from within Firefox via Help > About Firefox. User can also manually download and install Firefox 3.6.26 here. The next scheduled Firefox release is Firefox 3.6.27 set for Tuesday, March 13, 2012. The final update for Firefox 3.6 will be Firefox 3.6.28 on April 24th, 2012.

Thunderbird 3.1.18 Released

Mozilla Messaging has release a stability and security update for Thunderbird 3.1.x on January 31st, 2012 with Thunderbird 3.1.18 release. Existing Thunderbird 3.1.x users can update within Thunderbird via Help > Check for Updates or can manually download and install Thunderbird 3.1.18 from here. With the launch of the new Thunderbird ESR, Mozilla has announced: Thunderbird 3.1.x will be maintained with security and stability releases until April 24th, 2012 with the Thunderbird 3.1.20 release.

First Firefox ESR Coming Soon

Firefox ESR (Extended Support Release) sometimes called Firefox for Enterprise Users is about to become a reality. Firefox ESR was originally purposed to address challenges that Firefox Enterprise users were having with keeping up with the Rapid Release Process implemented back in Mid 2011. Firefox 10 ESR will be the update for Firefox 3.6 (which will see its last update on April 24th, 2012). In theory this is planned for release on January 31st, but we are not yet sure how this is going to be implemented. More info to come over the next few days.

Earlybird (Thunderbird 11.0a2) Working Again

As we had reported last night, the next build was going to contain a patch to fix the issue with mozglue.dll error message. After installing a fresh copy of the 2012-01-28 Earlybird build, everything is working again. Users will need to update manually to the newest build of Earlybird by downloading and installing a fresh copy from Thunderbird Channels page. There is no reason to uninstall the prior build, simply just install over with today’s build.

Earlybird (Thunderbird 11.0a2) Currently Broken

There is a critical bug in the January 27, 2012 build of Thunderbird Earlybird (11.0a2) which is preventing the application from launching on Windows. This is believed to be the result of the check in of Bug 701371 – Rename mozutils to mozglue, and move it to top-level. A patch has been created and uploaded for the next build. Users who have already updated to the broken build will get the message below along with a Windows ‘Program Stopped Working/Responding’ message.
