Just as was the change in Firefox 7.0 Nightly, the entry extensions.checkCompatibility.7.0a will not work with the new Thunderbird 7 nightly. To disable the compatibility checking add the following Boolean entry and set it to false: extensions.checkCompatibility.nightly This only works for Thunderbird 7 Nightly builds.

Update: First off thanks for the comments. Looks like I missed something, like the fact that I was running Firefox 7 Nightly maximized. Normally I only have the browser window only partial of the screen-width. But this does bring up an interesting question, why not have everything on one row even if the browser window is not maximized? The first screenshot while a partial screen size, is almost 800 pixels wide which would be for those running 800×600 would be maximized. Just seems like wasted space in that title bar. While I was trying out the different versions of Firefox…

I mentioned over on the Firefox Blog about a thread in the Thunderbird Builds forum asking if there is a possibility of being able to have toolbar (icons) next to the tabs like in Firefox. They posted the following mockup of how they would like this to look in Thunderbird (note they are using Small Icons and have the ‘Show:’ setting as Icons): At first I really didn’t understand what they were asking or why you want to do this. However, the more I got to looking at this, the more I would like to see this feature. This is…
I was looking through the Thunderbird builds board on mozillaZine when I came across a thread asking about having toolbar (icons) next to the tabs in Thunderbird like you could in Firefox. I didn’t quite understand this thread the first couple times I read it. The poster did a mock-up ‘screenshot’ of how this would look in Thunderbird. This got me wondering, ‘which version of Firefox allowed you to have toolbar icons next to the tabs’? I tried it out on Firefox 5 Beta and sure enough it is possible as seen above. I moved the Greasemonkey icon onto the…
The newer versions of Real Player have added an annoying feature which will allow you to download a video playing in the browser. At first I thought disabling all the RealPlayer plugins within Firefox would take care of this. It did not and then I noticed the same thing happening in Chrome. After some poking around in RealPlayer (which I rarely use) I found out how to turn off this feature. Launch RealPlayer* From the RealPlayer drop-down menu at the upper left select Preferences.. Click the Download & Recording category (2nd from the bottom) You can either un-check the enable…
A slight update to the Add-on(s) Disabled by Firefox post from earlier this year. Gecko 2.0 added the file extensions.sqlite to the ‘extensions’ files. Firefox 4.0 and newer include this particular file. We have updated the Wiki to reflect these changes. To get your add-ons working again: Close Firefox Locate your profile folder Delete the following files from your profile folder. Note: You may not have all these files: extensions.ini extensions.cache extensions.rdf extensions.sqlite Restart Firefox When you restart Firefox it will automatically rebuilt the extensions list, replacing the files you just removed with fresh updated copies. Your add-ons should now…
While there has been a lot of new development on Firefox for Mobile aka Fennec there is currently no official Thunderbird for Mobile. Further, there has not been any talk about developing a mobile version of Thunderbird. This could change in the future as the development of Thunderbird is now under Mozilla Labs, a group that specializes in these types of ‘projects’. The closest you can get to Syncing is an add-on, Zindus which allows you to sync your GMail and Thunderbird contacts. There is no synching of mail or calendar. Two options here, using a web-based email/calendar service like…

We described in the Thunderbird 5 Beta 1 Released post how to override Add-on Compatibility Checking by adding and setting the following Boolean entry to FALSE in Thunderbird’s about:config: extensions.checkCompatibility.5.0b There has been some isolated reports that after restarting Thunderbird users see the message: Add-on compatibility checking is disabled. You may have incompatible add-ons in Thunderbird’s add-on manager. However, their add-ons are stuck in a Disabled status. This is caused by Thunderbird’s extension files become corrupted. Simple fix to get your add-ons working again: Close Thunderbird Locate your profile folder Delete the following files from your profile folder. Note: You…
