Guessing the post read throttling implemented back at the end of June didn’t help with the ‘bot issue’. So now Elon Musk’s next idea is to charge everyone a small monthly subscription fee. Somehow his logic is this will stop bots in their tracks. Elon Musk has indicated that X, formerly known as Twitter, is considering charging all users for accessing the platform. The X owner said erecting a paywall around the business would ward off the bots, or automated accounts, that have become a bugbear for Musk. That is the lamest excuse I’ve seen. Couldn’t he come up with…
…in the timeline of the final change that kills off Twitter? After 17-years Twitter owner Elon Musk wants to ditch the ‘bird’ logo and instead use his favorite letter ‘X’. Elon Musk said Sunday that he plans to change the logo of Twitter to an “X” from the famous blue bird, marking what would be the latest big change since he bought the social media platform for $44 billion last year. In a series of posts on his Twitter account starting just after 12 a.m. ET, Twitter’s owner said that he’s looking to make the change worldwide as soon as Monday….
On Friday, it became apparent to many Internet users Twitter had walled itself off. No more anonymously reading Tweets on Twitter. Users discovered if they wanted to view Tweets on Twitter they would need a Twitter account and must be logged in. Musk claims this is only temporary due to ‘data scraping’ issues. Several hundred organizations (maybe more) were scraping Twitter data extremely aggressively, to the point where it was affecting the real user experience. What should we do to stop that? I’m open to ideas. — Elon Musk (@elonmusk) June 30, 2023 “Temporary emergency measure,” he claimed in a tweet….
I was having an issue with one of my bank’s website and wanted to see if this issue was on my end (which turn out to be the case) or theirs. I went to Twitter to see if there was any reports and was prompted to login. Kind of hard to do when I deleted my Twitter account a couple months back. Closing the login prompt in hopes of still being able to view Tweets anonymously only takes the user to the Twitter home page. This was confirmed earlier today by Bleeping Computer. However if it is insertional or a…
Received an email today from the folks at Jetpack Social informing me as of April 30th (tomorrow) they will be removing the auto-share functionality to Twitter. First off, being Twitter is the dumpster fire it has been since the changes last year we nuked our Twitter account earlier this month. So losing this functionality is not really a disappointment. The reasons they sited is Twitter’s removing free access to their API and them unable to reach an agreement (which likely means Twitter never even attempt to negotiate with Jetpack Social). The auto-share functionality to Facebook, Tumblr and Linkedin will remain…
With all the drama in the past few months with Twitter (including Musk labeling NPR as ‘State Affiliated’) we’ve opted to ditch our Twitter account. We are leaving the option to share posts on Twitter. Just be warned you do so as at your own risk and don’t come crying to us if the content of said post ‘upsets’ (no matter how obscure or minor) Elon’s moderation bots and your Twitter account gets banned /s. We are tentatively planning to do the site migration to the new host on Thursday, April 27th, 2023. If things go smoothly (one never knows…
Just when the remaining Twitter employees thought the worse was over, Chief Twit has let more employees go. This past Friday (December 16th) evening an unknown number (since Twitter doesn’t have a communications department anymore) of employees in the infrastructure division were laid off via email. The New York Times reported on Tuesday that Musk had laid off Nelson Abramson, Twitter’s head of infrastructure. And that was my last day at Twitter. Laid off by email. The experience has been indescribable from chaos to hilarious. — Dave Beckett (@dajobe) December 17, 2022 Twitter did not immediately respond to Engadget’s comment request….
Twitter users, 17.5 million of them have voted in a 12-hour poll Musk posted on Sunday afternoon. Almost 58% want Musk to step down as CEO. There has been no word this morning from Musk in regards to this poll. However, he did tweet a ‘warning’ shortly after posting the poll (which was already overwhelming ‘Yes’) about what would happen if he goes. Should I step down as head of Twitter? I will abide by the results of this poll. — Elon Musk (@elonmusk) December 18, 2022 It remains to be seen if (and how, and when) Musk will abide…
Chief Twit has posted his latest poll question and it is about his future at Twutter. Voting is still open for a few hours and we shall see if he really “abide by the results of this poll”. Should I step down as head of Twitter? I will abide by the results of this poll. — Elon Musk (@elonmusk) December 18, 2022
Chief Twit has implemented yet another new policy today for Twitter: No “free promotion” of competing social media websites. That is users may no longer link to Facebook, Mastodon, Instagram. and other social media sites. Advertisers (since their promotions are not “free”) can continue linking to said competition platforms. Moving forward, Twitter says it will remove links to Facebook, Instagram, Mastodon, Tribel, Post, Nostr and Donald Trump’s Truth Social from accounts whose “main purpose” is to promote content on those platforms. As a result of the policy, users can no longer use their Twitter bio to link to their other social media profiles,…
