Microsoft Confirms End of Windows 10

Not sure which is worse Elon Musk at the helm of Twitter or Microsoft Corporation 428,74 -0,63 -0,15% trying to force people from Windows 10 to Windows 11. On April 27th, Microsoft provided a “Windows client roadmap update” which basically says Windows 10 is now a dead-end and since 22H2 was the last feature update there is nothing to see here. More over, Microsoft’s ‘recommendation’ says “We highly encourage you to transition to Windows 11 now as there won’t be any additional Windows 10 feature updates.”. There’s a couple problems with said recommendation: Many people are unable to ‘transition’ to…

Jetpack Social Removes Twitter Auto-Share

Received an email today from the folks at Jetpack Social informing me as of April 30th (tomorrow) they will be removing the auto-share functionality to Twitter. First off, being Twitter is the dumpster fire it has been since the changes last year we nuked our Twitter account earlier this month. So losing this functionality is not really a disappointment. The reasons they sited is Twitter’s removing free access to their API and them unable to reach an agreement (which likely means Twitter never even attempt to negotiate with Jetpack Social). The auto-share functionality to Facebook, Tumblr and Linkedin will remain…

No More New Features for Windows 10

Microsoft has announced the Windows 10 22H2 feature update is the last for Windows 10 (so no Windows 11 23H1 or 23H2). There will still be patches and security updates through the end of life (October 2025) for Window 10, just no new features. Seems I am not the only one in the boat of not liking Windows 11.  Though to be fair, I only worked with it for a few hours. Perhaps it was the laptop, but still even a basic laptop ($500 USD) shouldn’t be chocking on YouTube videos with nothing else open (other than whatever crap Microsft…

Server Migration Complete

Today, is Saturday, April 29th and we have successfully completed the sever migration before our May 1st deadline. There were some minor hiccups along the way, but nothing major. The Gallery did not migrate well and still not sure what the underlying causes were other than the resource intensive template (more so because there was a plugin that went along with the template).  We did have about 20-minute span last night where users were getting a certificate warning error. Not sure what happen there as it appears the add-on domain for the blog did not get setup properly in cPanel…

Sever Migration this Weekend

We plan on moving the blog over to the new hosting provider (Host Gator) this weekend. We ran into some troubles earlier today with another WordPress site (The Gallery) which did not want to migrate nicely. After a lot of trial-and-error we narrow down the issue to the theme being used on that site. Once we disabled said theme and switched default we were able to access the site again. We have since updated the theme to use the basic version of the same theme on this site. While it was a pain to redo the theme on The Gallery,…

We Are Now on Mastodon!

Mastodon Social

After euthanizing  our Twitter account last week, we have now set an account on Mastodon. Going forward (in theory) new posts should automagically get posted to this account (as they do to our Facebook Page and my personal Linkedin account).

We’ve ditched Twitter and Site Migration

With all the drama in the past few months with Twitter (including Musk labeling NPR as ‘State Affiliated’) we’ve opted to ditch our Twitter account. We are leaving the option to share posts on Twitter. Just be warned you do so as at your own risk and don’t come crying to us if the content of said post ‘upsets’ (no matter how obscure or minor) Elon’s moderation bots and your Twitter account gets banned /s. We are tentatively planning to do the site migration to the new host on Thursday, April 27th, 2023. If things go smoothly (one never knows…

Thoughts About DiSH Network Lawsuits

Yes, it has been a long, long hiatus. Had not planned on going this long without new content. Got a bit burned out end of last year trying to push out content multiple times a day. With that said, I do plan on putting out more content in the future, but not on a any type of schedule. If there is relevant and interest tech news I’ll post it. Such as the case with the recent lawsuits against DiSH Network as a result of their Cyber Security Incident earlier this year. Before I get into that, I do want to…

Twitter Has Laid Off More Employees

Just when the remaining Twitter employees thought the worse was over, Chief Twit has let more employees go. This past Friday (December 16th) evening an unknown  number (since Twitter doesn’t have a communications department anymore) of employees in the infrastructure division were laid off via email.  The New York Times reported on Tuesday that Musk had laid off Nelson Abramson, Twitter’s head of infrastructure. And that was my last day at Twitter. Laid off by email. The experience has been indescribable from chaos to hilarious. — Dave Beckett (@dajobe) December 17, 2022 Twitter did not immediately respond to Engadget’s comment request….
