Since I do extensive testing with multiple builds of Firefox, I have several profiles. The biggest hassle when creating a new profile is you start with a clean slate. That is you start with no bookmarks, extensions, themes, saved passwords or form history, permissions, browser history, etc. However most of this information can easily be migrated to another profile if you know what files you need. Simply copy the files below from the folder of your main profile to that of the new profile(s): Bookmarks: bookmarks.html Browser History: history.dat Passwords: singson.txt and key3.db Saved Forms: formhistory.dat Site Permissions: hostperm.1 While…

I was looking through the mozillaZine Firefox Bugs forum last night and came across a thread titled Improper shutdown of Firefox when shutting down computer. Turns out this is related to Bug 333907 and appear to have become more of an issue in Firefox 2 builds with Windows XP (although I thought I saw Mac mentioned in Bug 342885). Instead of closing Firefox before shutting down Windows, users are letting Windows close all the programs as it shuts down. Even with this method, Firefox is still closing normally, that is to say users are not getting the Unresponsive Program dialog…
I use Flock for all my feeds but am disappointed that I could not get my favorite extension CoLT. Tonight I had done a search on the Flock Extensions site and this what was displayed: No results were found for your search query. Please try another or just upload a Firefox extension to convert it so that it will work with Flock. When you click the above link you will be taken to an upload utility where you can either upload the Firefox Extension XPI file or the URL for the XPI file you want to convert to Flock. The…
A while back I posted about The Firefox 2 SSL 2.0 Tweak. Still some folks continue to have issues with Firefox not being able to access secure sites. SSL (Secure Socket Layers) is a protocol that secures communication over the Internet, which most banking sites and online stores require to send sensitive information. Here are some things to check if you are still having issues: Since SSL requires Firefox to use a loopback connection, check to be sure your firewall is not blocking INCOMING connections to Firefox. This is by far the most common reason for this issue. I had…
I’ve added a couple new features to the right side bar: Posts of Interest: These are posts which are great reference guides and contain a wealth of Firefox information. Currently there are only two posts included: Firefox 2.0 Tweaks Guide and Fx Year In Review. More should be added in the future. Note: If there is a post you feel should be included let me know, it is easy for me to overlook some posts. Latest From The Guru: Lists the last 5 posts in order as they appear in the blog (not necessarily as they were published). On rare…
[digg=http://digg.com/software/Firefox_A_Year_In_Review] Here we are at the end of 2006! I can’t believe this year is nearly over and thought wouldn’t it be neat to take a look at all the changes to Firefox over the past year? A lot has happened (more then I first realized) with a total of 11 official releases. For each release I’ll discuss the new features/fixes as well as link to security enhancements/fixes for that version. Now before we begin, I have a couple quick clarification notes: Releases are listed in order by which they were released (date), not by their version number. Which is…
Just a reminder if you regularly visit Bugzilla: On Tuesday, December 26, at 6pm PST (2am UTC Wednesday) we will be upgrading Bugzilla to the current pre-release of version 3.0. We are expecting the upgrade to take anywhere from 4 to 6 hours. Bugzilla will be down for the duration of the upgrade process. For more information, see the upgrade notes.
Wishing y’all a very Merry Christmas! A little later today I will be posting a very special entry: Fx Year In Review. I’ve spent quite a bit of time over the course of this past week doing research and taking notes for this entry. This is a very in depth review of Firefox throughout 2006 from 1.5 to 2.0.0.1 and even 3.0a1! I have covered features and fixes as well as included my thoughts (some good and some not so good) about these particular releases. Also, something different with the Fx Year in Review entry, I have included several external…
New to Fx 3.0a2pre (Gran Paradiso), starting with the December 20th nightlies (Build 20061220XX), is a warning message when you access about:config the first time (or if you don’t uncheck the ‘Show this warning next time.’ box). I guess you could say about:config is to Firefox as the Registry is to Windows. However, while there a lot of Firefox settings that can be changed via about:config, but I can’t really think of anything that would be critical enough to cause Firefox to stop working. Some changes may produce undesirable effects in which case you just go back in to about:config…
Wow! 2006 is almost over and what a year it has been for Firefox with 11 releases over two versions (1.5 & 2.0)! I am in the process of putting together a Firefox Year in Review Blog entry which I plan to have up tomorrow night. Stay tunned…
