Animated GIFs

Here is a handy tip for dealing with a site that has animated GIFs, pressing ‘ESC’ key will pause animated GIF’s on a page (broken with Firefox 20 and newer). This works in both Firefox and Internet Exploiter.  Note: in order to ‘resume’ the animation you will need to refresh/reload the page. Adapted from Thunderbird How To Manage Profiles Your Thunderbird profile not only contains all your preferences and extensions but your e-mail folders and messages as well. Moving your profile is not that difficult. One thing to keep in mind though is your Thunderbird profile can get quite large depending on the size of the e-mail messages you have saved so you will need to copy it to a CD/DVD or Flash Drive. Firefox 2.0.0.9 Coming

On Friday – October 26th, there was a Fx 2.0.0.9 Test Day which means the final release of Fx 2.0.0.9 should be coming out some time this week. I have seen unconfirmed reports that this release date is going to be this Thursday – November 1st. Should have more info soon from the Mozilla Weekly Update meeting. Blip.tv Vista Video Thoughts

Here are some thoughts about the Blip.tv Windows Vista video: A Combination of Windows CE + ME + NT – Never used Windows CE or ME (although my friend had it and didn’t seemed too difficult to work with). Fx 2.0.0.8 Regressions Update

As was pointed out in this week’s update meeting notes, there are some issues with the recent Fx 2.0.0.8 upgrade.  As of Monday morning this was the list of known Regressions: 391412/400406 – layout regression with CSS (Win XP/Vista, Mac, Linux) 400421 – dynamically removing an <area> makes the whole map disappear (Win XP/Vista, Mac, Linux) 400467 – After upgrading to FF 2.0.0.8 Java applets stop working on Vista [Fx 2.0.0.8/JAVA/Vista Issues] 400714 – Flash crashes on Mac have skyrocketed in FF 2008 Here are a couple more we have found from Mozilla Developer News and the appear only to…

As mentioned in today’s Weekly Update, a serious regression involving Firefox 2.0.0.8 and JAVA (JRE 1.6 update 3)on Windows Vista ONLY has been identified. Bug 400467: Java broken on Vista after Firefox 2.0.0.8 upgrade (says Java Not Found, Or Not Working). Reviewing the bug report, the bug filer had upgraded to Fx 2.0.0.8 earlier that morning and attempted to launch/play a JAVA based game at Pogo.com and was told that they could access the site with IE7.
