Firefox 3.6.6 Released

Mozilla has released the fourth (there was no Firefox 3.6.1 or 3.6.5) update for Firefox 3.6.6 on June 26. This update addressed issues with new plugin handler causing issues with the immensely popular Facebook game Farmville. See bug 574905 for full details.

Firefox 3.6.6 modifies the crash protection feature to increase the amount of time that plugins are allowed to be non-responsive before being terminated.

Users should be prompted soon to update, but can obtain this update via Help the Menu and selecting Check For Updates…For complete list of changes and more information, please see the Firefox 3.6.6 Release Notes.

Since this was a ‘firedrill release’ all updates that were part of the original 3.6.6 update have been moved to Firefox 3.6.7 scheduled for around the end of July. Also note this update is only for Firefox 3.6, Firefox 3.5 is still currently at 3.5.10.

  1. The Aero interface is beautiful. I think the personas are largely pretty damn ugly.

  2. So, here we got an update that pretty much adds nothing new and does not fix any bugs. I think it is time for me to turn off the update reminder. Was this the intention of this release?

  3. Did this update break anyone gmail for anyone else??

  4. After loading 3.6.6 I could not access gmail inbox or any other email feature, compose, contacts. All frozen even sign out and must exit through Firefox. All works well in Safari

Yup, this release broke gmail. I only have a couple of add-ons, too, so easy to tell they’re not the cause. Broke WebEx, too.

  6. FF 3.6.6 ID breaks gmail for me. Under Settings, Labs and all the features I selected do not even show up. I used User Agent Switcher to set up a FF 3.0 setting, and all was restored:

    Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9.0.10) Gecko/2009042316 Firefox/3.0.10

  7. In Fact, it seems using the default info, to set up a new User Agent Switcher setting, but in one string:

    Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9.2.6) Gecko/20100625 Firefox/3.6.6 (.NET CLR 3.5.30729)

also works just fine. I label this one
    Firefox 3.6.6 (Win XP)

You can see this setting show up in about:config in the field
    general.useragent.override

    *sigh*
You can just go into about:config and change dom.ipc.plugins.timeoutSecs to 45 if you NEED farmville.
Serious users who have no time for fun can change dom.ipc.plugins.timeoutSecs back to a more reasonable time (10-30 seconds).
    ;P
