Earlier this week Microsoft began testing a new feature for some English speaking and US based Windows Insiders who have installed the latest Windows 11 Dev build. The new ‘feature’ which will display flyout tips in the task bar letting them know they can search their PC and the web from the taskbar.

Microsoft is now testing a new way to help Windows 11 users get more out of its Windows Search by displaying tip flyouts in the taskbar.

Starting today, Windows 11 will display tips prodding Windows Insiders who have installed the latest Windows 11 Dev build to search their PC and the web from the taskbar.

Um…okay…I don’ really understand the purpose of this other than to annoy Windows users with yet another pop-up…I mean fly-out. The search feature via Windows logo key + S has been a longtime feature since Windows 8.1 back in 2013 when it was the ‘Search charm’. I have used this shortcut for searching on my computer, but I rather search the web using my preferred browser with my preferred search engine not with Edge and Bing.
