Firefox 5 introduces a new feature that changes the way tab bar behaves when you close a tab. In Google Chrome, when you close a tab, the remaining tabs do not immediately resize. This allows you to keep closing tabs without having to move your mouse. Once you mouse off the tab bar then the remaining tabs will resize to adjust to the space on the tab bar. Just wanted to clarify that mozilla-central is the Nightlies channel for Firefox as in some places you will see mozilla-central. Further, Thunderbird is transitioning to the rapid release cycle as well with the labels comm-central (nightly), comm-aurora and comm-beta.

Since I have a large monitor I am able to run a very high resolution (1920×1080). As such, I do not have my Firefox window maximized but rather I have it taking the full screen vertically and about half the screen horizontally. There are times I will go to a website, where the developer has decided that the Firefox window should be maximized or a different size. It is still a learning process for the new Thunderbird rapid release schedule. Earlier this month Mozilla Developer’s News blog explained the difference between the merge and release dates. To sum it up, the dates show on the release page (as well as those posted here) are the date the code is being merged on to the particular channel. I mentioned in the Add-on Compatibility Reporter post, I had installed Firefox 7 Nightly but was having trouble getting the addon comparability ‘safe-guard’ turned off via an about:config tweak as I had in the past for other developmental builds. Girish Mony commented for those who just want to disable the compatibility checking add the following Boolean entry and set it to false: extensions.checkCompatibility.nightly This only works for Firefox 7 Nightly builds. Not sure what is going to happen when Firefox 7 moves to the Aurora channel on July 5th.
While trying to get some updated info on the next release of Thunderbird 3.3 (Miramar) I came across a thread in the Thunderbird Builds forum discussing the numbering change. Simply put, the Thunderbird developers want to have the version numbering match that of Firefox/Gecko. One question I tend to get a lot is ‘How Do I Clear My Cache and Cookies in Firefox?‘. I will give Microsoft kudos for making this process fairly simple (three steps) in Internet Explorer 9.
