It only took Mozilla 5 Betas and 2 1/2 months to fully respond to the backlash of the new add-ons bar introduced in Firefox 4 Beta 7. Back when I installed Firefox 4 Beta 9, I discovered the lack of usability with the new add-ons bar which was introduced in Firefox 4 Beta 7. Mainly, it no longer displayed the status of the page loading and more importantly, it did not show link targets (address when hovering over a link). Due to crash issues upon startup with Firefox 3.5.17/3.6.14 (which also affected Thunderbird 3.1.8), the next release has been pushed back to March 1st. Also as a reminder, Thunderbird 3.0 is no longer supported as of early December.

Since the upcoming releases of Firefox 3.5, 3.6 and 4.0 are stalled at the moment, going to take this time to review some of the free software I’ve been using. First up is 7capture. As the name implies it is a screen capture application and works with Windows XP, Vista as well as 7. I was a big fan of FastStone Capture, but back in 2007 the newer versions were no longer free. For those keeping track, Firefox 3.5.17 & 3.6.14 were scheduled to be released back on February 8th. This date later got pushed back to February 14th. Finally today, February 18th Mozilla updated the release page removing a projected release date. So what’s with the delays? Much like Firefox 3.5.17 and 3.6.14, Firefox 4 Beta 12 has been delayed. Currently there are five bugs holding back the Beta 12 release. Of these five, one is ‘major,’ two are ‘critical’ and three are ‘normal’. Bottom line, barring some miracle does not look like Firefox 4 is going to be released this month. Especially since Mozilla is “reserving the right’ to have a Beta 13 (if needed) release prior to moving to the Release Candidate builds. Source: ZDNet
