Got an email from a family member in regards to their Thunderbird. They switched ISP and email providers and when their email account was setup in Thunderbird, it had its own folder structure. My first thought was the account had been setup as IMAP, but I checked on the provider’s website determined they didn’t support IMAP. I thought may be this was they way Thunderbird 3 handled POP accounts. Wouldn’t really know since I use IMAP exclusively. Locating your Firefox profile folder can be a bit of challenge. While assisting a family member (more on this later) the other day we discovered that with Firefox 3.6, it s very easy to get to your profile folder. From the Firefox Help Menu, select Troubleshooting Information… or in a new tab type about:support and press enter. When Thunderbird 2.0.0.24 Released back in mid-March, this was the last planned update for the 2.0.0.X trunk. Mozilla Messaging confirmed yesterday that there will indeed be no further updates for Thunderbird 2. Users are encouraged to upgrade to Thunderbird 3. Source: dmose’s blog

Mozilla has a released for download and testing purposes a Beta version of the upcoming Firefox 3.6.4 (Lorentz). Included in this release is the new Out Of Process Plugins (OOPP) which allows Plugins (currently Adobe Flash, Apple QuickTime and Microsoft Silverlight) to run in a separate process from the main Firefox process. With OOPP, if a plugin should malfunction and crash, only the tab(s) containing the plugin will crash instead of taking the whole browser down. Google Chrome is a browser which uses a type of OOPP technology. The public release for Firefox 3.6.4 is currently scheduled for May 4th, 2010….

As mentioned earlier today there is an Important JAVA Update available for all platforms, but more importantly for people using 32-bit versions of Windows. Now, Mozilla is blocking the JAVA Development Toolkit versions 6.0.200.0 and older. The reason is due to a security voluntarily as described in Bug 558584. Firefox users with this version(s) of the plug-in installed with see a dialog box informing them the plug-in has been blocked and to restart the browser so it can be disabled.
