Got an email from a family member in regards to their Thunderbird. They switched ISP and email providers and when their email account was setup in Thunderbird, it had its own folder structure. My first thought was the account had been setup as IMAP, but I checked on the provider’s website determined they didn’t support IMAP. I thought may be this was they way Thunderbird 3 handled POP accounts. Wouldn’t really know since I use IMAP exclusively. After a little hunting I discovered you can still have Thunderbird to deliver all the messages in your POP accounts to the Global Inbox…

JAVA seems to be a popular topic lately on this here blog. So here is another Firefox and JAVA related post for your reading pleasure. Yesterday I was helping a family member at their home with an odd issue with their Firefox 3.6 install on Windows 7. It seems they had several versions of the JAVA Console add-on installed and they could not uninstall them (‘uninstall’ button was greyed out). I am not even really sure what this extension is suppose to since I did not have this add-on installed. From what I have read it is suppose to open…

From the Firefox Help Menu, select Troubleshooting Information… or in a new tab type about:support and press enter. In the new tab that opens there is a section Application Basics, click the Open Containing Folder button Click for Full Size Image

Below is part of an article Gareon had posted on Go Firefox! Although I live in Windows, I avoid Internet Explorer – its the Defensive Computing thing to do. My approach is the same as Steve Gibson’s, we run IE once a month to install Microsoft patches, then ignore it until next month. Not too long ago, on his Security Now! podcast, Gibson suggested further protection from IE by setting both the Internet and Intranet zones to “High” security levels. What the heck, I figured, an extra bit of safety can’t hurt. But it did hurt, and thus, this blog…
Mozilla has a released for download and testing purposes a Beta version of the upcoming Firefox 3.6.4 (Lorentz). Included in this release is the new Out Of Process Plugins (OOPP) which allows Plugins (currently Adobe Flash, Apple QuickTime and Microsoft Silverlight) to run in a separate process from the main Firefox process. With OOPP, if a plugin should malfunction and crash, only the tab(s) containing the plugin will crash instead of taking the whole browser down. Google Chrome is a browser which uses a type of OOPP technology. The public release for Firefox 3.6.4 is currently scheduled for May 4th, 2010….

As mentioned earlier today there is an Important JAVA Update available for all platforms, but more importantly for people using 32-bit versions of Windows. Now, Mozilla is blocking the JAVA Development Toolkit versions 6.0.200.0 and older. The reason is due to a security voluntarily as described in Bug 558584. Firefox users with this version(s) of the plug-in installed with see a dialog box informing them the plug-in has been blocked and to restart the browser so it can be disabled. Most Firefox users are not going to miss this plugin as it is used for developing JAVA Applications. As long…
