I’ve been so busy this past week with work I have not had a chance to keep up on the latest Firefox/Mozilla news. Earlier this week a major vulnerability was exposed for Firefox 1.5.0.8, 2.0, 2.0.0.1pre (not sure about 3.0a1pre) and SeaMonkey 1.0.6: “A vulnerability in Firefox handling of saved passwords has been announced today. The vulnerability allows Firefox to autofill saved credentials no matter where they are being submitted. As shown in a test case attached to the relevant bug, as long as similar forms are published in the same web site credentials are retrieved. Robert Chapin, the original…

Last night when the usual nightly build update hit, I noticed something odd. I was getting a warning box informing me with this build several of my extensions were not be compatible. Odd, why would a nightly on the 2.0 builds do this? After I closed the warning box the installed went as normal. However when I restarted Firefox after the install I had a new tab open which was displaying a Mozilla 404 page. This page that is not found is What’s New Bon Echo 2.0.0.1pre. Now, it is possible by the time this blog entry is published Mozilla…

The first Firefox 3 (Grand Paradiso) developmental milestone, Alpha 1 is set for next Tuesday, November 28th. Not really sure yet what features are going to be a part of this milestone. I have heard over at CyberNet: Firefox 3 To Have Advanced Microsummaries and it will be Acid 2 compliant. But that is about all I know for now besides the fact it will be built off the Gecko 1.9 trunk (Minefield).
Over the past couple months several notebook manufacturers have announced the recall of the batteries as they could over-heat and explode. PcPitStop put together a great video demonstration with a system that they created to purposely instigate a battery explosion. The video below is about 5 minutes and really illustrates the danger of these exploding batteries. [youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WeWq6rWzChw]

Over the past view days I have noticed the post Firefox 2.0: Close Tab Buttons has been the either most or second most viewed post on my blog. I have also been getting loads of comments about this post as well. I’ve noticed from these comments a lot of people don’t like the ‘Close Tab Button’ on every tab as is the standard practice with Firefox 2. A while back when I first started playing with Bon Echo (Firefox 2) I want to say while it was still in the Alpha builds, I liked having the close tab button on…
This month’s IEEE Spectrum Magazine cover story is The Firefox Kid (Blake Ross). The bulk of the article serves as an introduction to Blake Ross & Joe Hewitt’s joint project, Parakey. Other parts of the article include Blake’s childhood “as part of the first generation to grow up with the Internet.”, how Phoenix/Firebird/Firefox came about and an humorous account of a dinner with Microsoft’s Internet Explorer team after Firefox became popular. So you ask, what is Parakey? Here is Blake Ross’s description: “a Web operating system that can do everything an OS can do.” Translation: it makes it really easy…
