Mozilla has had the Firefox OS on smartphones for a while now. Next up is tablets. Mozilla’s own Asa Dotzier, director of Firefox OS, has now provided the hardware specs of the Foxconn-made reference Firefox OS tablet. It’s very similar to the Infocus nFocus New Tab F1, which sells for around $400 USD. The tablet sports a 10.1-inch IPS multi-touch screen with a 1280 x 800 resolution that is backed by a quad-core Allwinner A31 chip clocked at 1 GHz, PowerVR SGX544MP2 graphics, and 2 GB of DDR3 memory. Thunderbird 24.3.0 was originally scheduled for release on Tuesday, January 21st, 2014. However, due to Mozilla shutting down their operations until January 6th, they have opted to push the release back two weeks to ensure the build quality is not sacrificed. Mozilla released an update for the Thunderbird 24.x branch on December 10th, 2013. Thunderbird 24.2.0 addressed these issues: Security fixes can be found here Fixed an issue where long messages with multiple signatures could end up unreadable (bug 929006) Fixed an issue where editing account settings was not possible in some non-standard configurations of local folder set-ups (bug 921371) Depending on update settings, users should automatically be prompted to update to Thunderbird 24.2.0 or may do so manually via Help > About Thunderbird or downloading and installing via the getthunderbird.com site. Earlier this year Mozilla announced it would release Firefox OS phones in the US sometime next year. CNet cites Mozilla Executive Chair Mitchell Baker as saying “currently, there are no plans to launch in the U.S.” However, you may still be able to get your hands on an unlocked ZTE Open Powered By Firefox OS smart phone via eBay (note this phone does not support 4G/4G LTE). via Tom’s Hardware
