Firefox ESR (Extended Support Release) sometimes called Firefox for Enterprise Users is about to become a reality. Firefox ESR was originally purposed to address challenges that Firefox Enterprise users were having with keeping up with the Rapid Release Process implemented back in Mid 2011. Firefox 10 ESR will be the update for Firefox 3.6 (which will see its last update on April 24th, 2012). In theory this is planned for release on January 31st, but we are not yet sure how this is going to be implemented. More info to come over the next few days.
As we had reported last night, the next build was going to contain a patch to fix the issue with mozglue.dll error message. After installing a fresh copy of the 2012-01-28 Earlybird build, everything is working again. Users will need to update manually to the newest build of Earlybird by downloading and installing a fresh copy from Thunderbird Channels page. There is no reason to uninstall the prior build, simply just install over with today’s build.

There is a critical bug in the January 27, 2012 build of Thunderbird Earlybird (11.0a2) which is preventing the application from launching on Windows. This is believed to be the result of the check in of Bug 701371 – Rename mozutils to mozglue, and move it to top-level. A patch has been created and uploaded for the next build. Users who have already updated to the broken build will get the message below along with a Windows ‘Program Stopped Working/Responding’ message. You will need to manually reinstall Earlybird by downloading Earlybird from the Thunderbird Builds page. We will post an…
Johnathan Nightingale, Sr. Director of Firefox Engineering has posted on the Future of Firefox blog describing what is involved in switching Firefox for Android UI from XML to the new Native UI. While the rapid release process from a features stand point makes sense and works, this is not the case for this change over. However, when we decided to rebuild Firefox for Android using a native UI, we recognized that the first release couldn’t ride the trains. The iterative release model that serves us so well with Firefox works best when most changes are incremental and independent. Building a…

There is an additional step once you have installed the new dictionary add-on and restarted Firefox. You need to tell Firefox which dictionary it should be using. While, you can install as many different dictionaries as you like (as seen in the example below), you can only use one at a given time. Right-click in a text-area Select Languages Select the Dictionary you want to use
