Firefox 16.0.1 Released

Mozilla identified some security vulnerabilities with Firefox 16, released earlier this week. The 16.0.1 update addresses said vulnerabilities. Firefox 15 users are not affected by these vulnerabilities. Another update, Firefox 16.0.2 is still being evaluated as Mozilla is still determining the full scope of the window load handler failure issue which causes some add-ons not to load when a new window (not tab) is opened. Existing Firefox 16 users can updated to 16.0.1 via Help > About Firefox or download and install Firefox 16.0.1 manually via the getfirefox.com site.An update for Firefox 16.0.1 for Android has already been pushed out to Google Play Store.

Firefox 3.6.x end of life Clarification

On the March 17th Release Update and we incorrectly stated there would be a Firefox 3.6.29 on April 24th as the final release for the Firefox 3.6.x branch. Firefox 3.6.28 released on March 13th is the final release on the Firefox 3.6.x branch. However, in the unlikely event of a chemspill update resulting in a Firefox 3.6.29 release, this in turn would be the final release. After April 24th users will need to move to Firefox 12 or Firefox 10.0.x ESR (for those who’s computers do not support the requirements for Firefox 12). Thanks to Mozilla’s Daniel Veditz for the…

Restore Old Default Image Style

For those of you who recently updated to Firefox 11 and have discovered the changes Mozilla has made with the way standalone images (right-clicking on an image and selecting ‘view image’), here is an add-on that ‘fixes’ this for you. Old Default Image Style restores the Firefox 10 and older style of viewing standalone images. Even better, this add-on does not require a restart, simply install and you are ready to go instantly. Thanks to ringokaori for the tip.

The Return of The Guru

Looks like my last post was right before Christmas. Sure does not seem like it has been nearly 3-weeks since I had last posted. I’ve been very busy during those past weeks, plus there really hasn’t been much Firefox news either with the holidays. This past week was the first full work week for Mozilla and there was one major announcement that Gareon posted in my absence (along with some other news items). While I have been busy, I have been following the weekly Mozilla Status meetings (though there have not been many with the Christmas and New Years holidays…

Follow-Up: Attack Page Mishap

A quick follow-up to our Attack Page Mishap earlier this month. We have discovered the compromise was not with WordPress or the WP Backup Plugin, but instead with the ZenPhoto application. I use Zen Photo for the gallery on my elguru.me site. ZenPhoto released an update on 11/11/11 (a couple days after the attack). Unfortunately, unless I am actually in the admin panel there is no way to know if there is an update. However, they do have a feed on their site I was able to subscribe to that is used for updates. The attack itself was not directly caused…

Firefox 3.6 Support Ends April 2012

Some new developments since the Firefox 3.6 Support Ending Early 2012 article was posted last month. The Enterprise/Firefox/ExtendedSupport:Proposal has been more refined now. If the assumption that the first Firefox ESR is going to be based of off Firefox 10 (release date January 31st, 2012) then allowing for a 12-week ‘grace period’ would put the end date of Firefox 3.6 support on April 24th, 2012 (also the date Firefox 12 will be released). This also 13-months after the release (March 21, 2011) of Firefox 4, twice the support time of the standard 6-month after release of next major version time…

Revision to Starting with a Fresh Profile

Bad_Attitude commented about the Starting with a Fresh Profile post. They mentioned that they move their Greasemonkey and Stylish scripts as well. I am not really certain what percentage of Firefox users use Greasemonkey and/or Stylish scripts and didn’t even think about porting those over. I do use many Greasemonkey scripts and may be one or two Stylish scripts. So, I’ve added directions on how to move over your Greasemonkey and/or Stylish scripts. In the Starting Over section I’ve added a new step which involved installing and using the eCleaner add-on prior to installing new add-ons. Since users are porting…

Facebook Update

We’ve made it easier to get to us on Facebook now. We can now be found at facebook.com/ffextensionguru. We are also trying to add more content such as the recent poll about App Tabs to go along with the posts earlier today about this often unknown or misused feature in Firefox 4 and newer.
