Yet another reason I so dislike Apple products…

I’ve never been a fan of Apple products. They are over-priced and use proprietary parts and accessories. Yes their products are high quality. In the case of a phone or computer I figure the Apple brand is going to last the same amount of time as the non-Apple brand. So in that case I’d rather spend the money on getting more features (and be able to use third-party after-market parts and accessories). I have never owned a Mac, iPad, iPhone or even iPod (well, I did own an iPod touch for a couple days). I refuse to use iTunes, even though there are times I can get…

AdBlock Plus is a Memory Hog?

Ever wonder why your Firefox is using so much memory? Turns out AdBlock Plus could be the cause behind this. Mark Wilson with betanews performed an experiment using both AdBlock Plus for Firefox and Chrome: “So this morning I fired up Firefox. One tab open — BetaNews, of course — finds memory usage sitting at around 184MB (Chrome, for comparison, eats up about 112MB for the same). OK, so let’s get AdBlock Plus installed to check out these claims. Instantly, memory usage for Firefox rocketed to 383MB — so more than doubling — although it did drop slightly to 350MB after…

Restoring the Gallery

Earlier this month I went through the process of installing theme and plugin updates for all the WordPress sites I host. I actively try to keep the sites updated as a I learned the hard way the damage and out-of-date plugin can cause. On the old gallery site I was using ZenPhoto which unlike WordPress, is not an easy application to install updates. So I had neglected to update the site for a while. One morning a couple years ago, I get online to find dozens of emails from my Firefox Blog followers (and a couple from my hosting company)…

Why Firefox won’t have a ‘Noisy Tabs’ feature

Earlier in January, a Google Chrome update include a new feature called Noisy Tabs which will put an indicator (speaker icon) on a tab that is playing audio. This helpful for when you do a session restore or you’re clicking links to open new tabs in the background then suddenly you have audio playing and have no idea which tab it is coming from. Instead of having to go through each tab you can quickly see which tab is “singing” by looking for the icon on the tab. So, I wondered if there was an add-on that added this functionality…

Nokia Lumia 920 Commercial

The first Windows Phone commercial I have seen. Microsoft is holding nothing back with this Windows Phone commercial. They make fun of both Android (with the Samsung Galaxy phones) as well as Apple iPhone users. Not really sure if I want a Windows phone, last thing I want is a BSOD on my phone. Of course the BSOD was replaced in Windows 8 with a kinder, gentler “There was a problem with your computer” screen. The one thing that did bug me about Windows phones, at least the one I was playing with at a T-Mobile store a few months…

FairSearch says Google Android is AntiTrust

I am seriously beginning to think the EU is leveling all these anti-trust violations and fines as method to bankroll their organization. It was bad enough when they went after Microsoft for “forcing people” to use Internet Explorer when they first load Windows on their machines. People are too stupid to take 2-minutes to download and install their favorite browser. Now, they are going after Goggle Android based on complaints from FairSearch: ” FairSearch argues that Google is using “deceptive conduct” to lockout the competition in the mobile search market. With 70 percent of the smartphone OS market, Google commands…

Microsoft Fine $730 Million By EU for “Browser Ballot” Mishap

Last year Microsoft discovered and acknowledged there was “mishap” with Windows 7 SP1 sold in the EU. Since 2009 Microsoft has been required for new installs of Windows in EU to present a “Browser Ballot” pop-up giving the user the choice of which will allow the user to choose which browser they wanted to use. This was a result of an Anti-Trust investigation against Microsoft which claimed that Microsoft was being anti-competitive for bundling Internet Explorer with Windows. More so, the EU felt Microsoft having the most common operating system was forcing Windows user to use Internet Explore with out letting them know up front of…
