We have received some questions as to how the Personas Plus extension is different from the built-in functionality which comes with Firefox 3.6 and newer. You do not need the extension to be able to preview and wear Personas. However, with the extension you can ‘bookmark’ your favorite Personas as well as setup for Personas to be switched at a given time, or each time Firefox starts and to choose from Personas in your favorites, a particular category or a random selection. Personas Plus will also add the ‘Fox Mask’ icon in your add-ons bar where you can access your…

The major standout feature in this new release is a new feature called Repair, which allows Xmarks to effortlessly roll back the last sync operation should it prove unsuccessful or introduce unwanted changes. Xmarks is an add-on that is designed to synchronise bookmarks across a number of browsers, devices and computers with the minimum of fuss. It’s available as a free add-on for most major browsers for syncing across multiple platforms and computers, while there is also a Premium version available with extra features, including support for mobile devices…” Jun 21, 2011 More Xmarks 4.0.0 for Firefox introduces Repair…
About two year ago we wrote about how to improve the start-up performance of Firefox 3.5 (yes, that is correct Firefox 3.5). One of the tips was the use of the add-on Vacuum Places Improved. Firefox 4.0 introduced automated and better management of the Places (history and bookmarks) database. I had forgotten all about this add-on until the other day when I was going through the Wiki updating the extensions and tweaks sections for compatibility with the newer versions of Firefox. I didn’t really think much of it then, but had noticed the add-on developer did bump the extension to…
Firefox 4 introduced the Firefox Button as a way to save space by eliminating the menu bar. The Firefox Button gives you access to a redesigned menu much like the ‘wrench’ button in Chrome. It’s a good idea but I always felt it needed some improvement. Below is a screenshot taken in the Aurora Release of Firefox 6 showing the normal layout: A couple things that bother me about the normal layout in regards to Mozilla’s theory that this would increase screen space. First, the button is huge compared to the wrench button in Chrome. Second unless the window is…
When I was setting up a test account on Linux Mint, I had no issues with Thunderbird’s account wizard in Thunderbird 3.1. However, when I tried to setup the same account in Thunderbird 5 or 7 it seemed the latest ‘improvements’ to the account wizard broke the automatic setup. Specifically the point where it attempted to verify the domain’s MX Records to get the correct server settings. I had posted about this in the Thunderbird Builds forum and was informed Bug 663971 had just been patched and to allow a couple days to hit both Miramar (Thunderbird 5) and Shredder…
