Thunderbird to be under Mozilla Labs

A couple years ago the development of Thunderbird was split off from Mozilla into its own separate organization, Mozilla Messaging.  This did not work out as well as hoped. Case in point, future development after Thunderbird 3.0 has been rather lacking over the past couple years. Mozilla has decided to re-take control of Thunderbird and merge Mozilla Messaging into Mozilla Labs. Mozilla Labs is a specialty team that handles the development of experimental projects such as Personas, Jetpack, Sync and Test Pilot to name a few. David Ascher will continue to head the development of Thunderbird under the new Mozilla…

How To Work With Multiple Spell Checking Dictionaries

Firefox by default ships with a spell checking dictionary that matches the language version of the browser. If you download the Firefox US release you end up with the US-English dictionary for instance. This usually works out of the box but may be buggy at times. You can check Fix Firefox Spell Check Not Working to correct possible spell checking issues. Some users may want to have multiple dictionaries at their disposal, for example if they have to write or spell proof US-English and British-English articles on the web, or if they communicate in at least two languages. How is that done?……

Wiki Updated

When I brought the Wiki over at the beginning of the year, I didn’t do much with it other than get it setup on the WordPress platform. It had been moved from MediaWiki, which is the same platform that Wikipedia uses. The main issues I had with MediaWiki was having to re-learn their coding every time I went to make an update (which was not that frequently). Since the updates to the content were not that frequent I didn’t want to hassle with trying to move to a new platform. That was until I did  a software update towards the…

Replacement for Infolister

The InfoLister add-on available through the official Mozilla Add-ons Repository does not support Firefox 4. There is a Beta version which supports Firefox 4 on the developers site. However, starting with Firefox 3.6, Mozilla built in most of the functionality of this extension right into Firefox. In the address bar type about:support and press enter. You now have a complete report about your Firefox including, what version/build, installed add-ons as well as about:config customizations. Another nice feature that I keep forgetting about is a button to open your profile folder. There is even a button to copy the report to…

Extra Photos 2-Years Later

Again here are some extra photos which were taken while in Tempe last weekend. I have no idea what this is suppose to be. I think it is suppose to a piece of art as they have art at most of the light-rail stations. I swear it looks like a giant scratching post. This is at the McClintock and Apache station. Tempe 2-Years Later Part 2

As I mentioned in the prior post, some things have not changed. Case in-point The Centerpoint Condominiums. This residential project started in 2005 feature two towers, 22 and 30 floors. Construction stopped sometime in 2008 when the original lender declared bankruptcy. The smaller tower was nearly completed and the second tower only half way completed. This project remained idle until the property was sold to a new developer at the end of February 2011. The new developer not only changed the name to West Sixth and the type of property (now apartments). Centerpoint Condominiums – Downtown Tempe April 2009 West…

Tempe 2-Years Later Part 1

It has been nearly two year since the The Changing Downtown Tempe Skyline & New Construction in Tempe posts from April 2009. I happen to be back out in the area last week for The Mill Avenue District Festival of the Arts. A lot has changed and surprisingly some things haven’t. Here we have the area of McClintock Drive and Apache Blvd, a little over a mile east of the ASU Main Campus. Firefox 4 Update Issues

Some people at Go Firefox! have reported some issues when attempting to upgrade from Firefox 3.6.16 to Firefox 4 on Windows. A couple I have seen include: Error 0x00000004 in firefox.exe Reboot required to complete update. User get this message when attempting to launch or uninstall Firefox via Windows Control Panel. In both cases firefox.exe or one of it components got corrupted during the update. To fix this issue follow these steps to manually remove the damaged Firefox and to install fresh: Got to getfirefox.com and download (do not run) Firefox 4 Close Firefox Locate your Firefox install folder.
