No Tabs For Thunderbird 2.0

One of the new features that is still on the Thunderbird 2.0 Road Map is ‘Tabbed Messages’.  The way this feature was suppose to work was allow you to open/view multiple messages in the preview pane switching between tabs.  Presently, each message when opened, opens in its own window. Take a look at this screen-shot from bugzilla bug 297379 to get an idea of how this would work.  There is another screen-shot showing an interesting idea on how to use tabs on the compose screen.  Unlike the first screen-shot,  the second one is from Sylpheed-Claws, which is an open-source mail client…

Thunderbird 2.0 Message Tags

A new feature with Thunderbird 2.0 is the ability to Tag messages. You can assign one of these five color-coded ‘default’ tags to a message by selecting the message(s) from the folder’s message list and right-clicking and selecting ‘Tag’ from the context menu: To Do Important Later Personal Work But what if these five ‘default’ tags are not what you are looking for? At the bottom of tag sub-menu is the option ‘New Tag…’. A popup box will allow you to create your own custom tag and pick the associated color. Once a message is ‘tagged’, the text as displayed…

Thunderbird 2.0 Pre-Beta 1

Thanks to Ryan at CyberNet for this info. Mozilla has released a ‘Pre-Beta 1’ version of Thunderbird 2.0. Pre-Beta is kinda funky name, likely this is a release-candidate for Beta 1 since the install folder was Mozilla Thunderbird 2.0 Beta 1. Still hunting for release notes as well as an exact (other than mid-September) release date for the official ‘Beta 1’. There have been some changes since the last Alpha 1 Release back at the end of July. It looks as if Mozilla has given Thunderbird UI a bit of a visual refresh as well. First screenshot below shows the…

Along with Firefox 1.5.0.7, Thunderbird 1.5.0.7 has been released as well. The release notes for Thunderbird are a bit brief: Improvements to product stability. Several security fixes. Nightly Tester Tools

I’ve recently read in blog entry (taking a step backward) about folks who love the new functionality of Firefox 2.0b1/2, but who can’t live without their favorite extensions from 1.5.0.X which are not yet compatible in Firefox 2.0b1/2. Simple solution is the Nightly Tester Tool extension. This extension once installed will allow you to ‘make compatible’ most extensions that currently do not work in (or were never designed for) a newer version of Firefox (also works for Thunderbird). Now, a word of caution…while MOST extensions seem to work fine when forced to work with Firefox 2.0b2, some may not. I…

Thunderbird 2.0a1

First, this isn’t really new news, the Thunderbird 2.0, Alpha 1 release has been out since July 27th. However, I been so busy testing, playing and but sadly NOT crashing FF 2.0, I’ve put Thunderbird on hold. Since I made Firefox 2.0 Beta 2 my default browser tonight (more on this soon), I decided to go ahead and get Thunderbird 2.0, Alpha 1 setup on my system. So, what’s new with Alpha 1? I wondered that myself so I took a look over at the Rumbling Edge’s Notable Bug Fixes and notice there are a few items. The most notable though…
