The latest nightly builds of Fx 3 have now added Plugins to the add-ons UI (which previously only contained Extensions and Themes). This allows users to enable and disable the installed plug-ins much easier than before. However as Percy points out on his article, there are a couple issue: An option not currently implemented is a way to check for updates for the installed plugins. A periodic check for new, more stable and safer versions and automated updates would be a big step forward security-wise. Then there’s the problem with plugins that involve more than one file. For example, QuickTime…

For some odd reason the last three blog entries (School Time Jet Bus, Review: FoxSaver and Fx 2.0.0.6 Ubuntu & Epiphany) were being posted as Private. This means I was able to see them but no one else was. I noticed something was wrong when the blog feed was not updating on Flock and on my FeedBurner Headline Animator. Upon further inspection in WordPress on Firefox I noticed the titles were starting out as ‘Private:’. This has been corrected and the missing posts should be appearing shortly, although it may take some time for the feeds to update.
Not much going on right now with Mozilla. There has been some new feature announcements for Firefox 3, but haven’t had a chance to look those over yet. Still need to do a fresh profile on my Firefox 3 Alpha 7. It has been a while since I have had Something Different. I came across this Jet-Powered School Bus YouTube video via the CyberNet forums. The YouTube video does not actually show the bus moving just them testing the engine. The bus body is made out of aluminum and the motors are a Westinghouse JW-34 Jetengine & 17.000 PK Brandstof…

I have not had much luck with Firefox on Ubuntu lately. I booted up into Ubuntu earlier today and ran the software updates which included an upgraded to Firefox 2.0.0.6 (release not nightly). Now, I am back to the point where Firefox just freezes after a couple minutes. Not sure what is causing this, last time it was due to the Kernel update around Memorial Day, but that was fixed with another Kernel update and going to 2.0.0.4. I suspect it may be something gone afoul in my profile, so next time I will start with a fresh profile. While…
I mentioned earlier in the Weekly Update 2007-08-06 post that there is going to a major update to take TBird users from the 1.5.0.12 to the 2.0.0.6 build. I got to thinking about this and something didn’t make sense. If the Major Update feature is still being tested, how could it be included with TBird 1.5.0.12? I am guessing they meant to say TBird 1.5.0.13, which is in the works. Fx 1.5.0.12 included the Major Update feature, so may be that is where they got 1.5.0.12 from.

Forbes senior editor Daniel Lyons. This according to the New York Times earlier today. Here are examples of Daniel Lyons writings regarding the Windows Vista launch: Daniel Lyons in Forbes: “Customers gripe about buying Microsoft’s new Vista operating system. But they’ll use it. … Microsoft says Vista is easier to manage and more secure than Windows XP. But, says John Halamka, chief information officer at Harvard Medical School and CareGroup Health System, Harvard’s affiliated group of hospitals: ‘Vista is also more complex, so it will probably add ten security features, but you’ll also get ten new security flaws. We’re going…
