View OpenOffice.org Docs in Fx

You can easily view (and do other basic operations) your OpenOffice.org documents in Firefox.  No extensions or software to install, just a simple plug-in to activate:

  1.  Start OpenOffice
  2. From the Tools menu select Options…
  3. At the end of the list select the category Internet
  4. At the of this list select Mozilla Plug-In
  5. Click Enabled
  6. Click OK

That’s all you need to do!  No reboot needed, you now can view, save, print, make into PDF, e-mail and zoom any OpenOffice.org document right from Firefox.  Want to edit the document simply click the Edit File icon and it will launch OpenOffice.org with the select file ready for editing.

  1. I tried and I tried to open office.org Docs in Fx, but the computer just laughed at me, so I smashed it with a baseball bat. Now I have to comment on your post from my local library. I also have my anger management class tonight, so that’s good I guess.

    also i like to say that this tip is for windows users only, on linux OO didn’t come with Moizila Plug-ing option (at least on ubuntu)

  3. Make sure your (Windows) Firewall is allowing OpenOffice connections (to localhost); That’s the way it functions (Firefox).

  4. This is an awesome plugin. Very useful!

  5. Totally not working for me. Every time I open an OpenOffice doc (in Firefox or not) it opens in a OpenOffice window. Waste of my time.

  6. I do not see this as useful as having a “edit with OpenOffice” in the Firefox File menu, as IE enables. That is what i would like to see, as then you can edit you own web pages therein. Pray and press.
