Review: Auto Shutdown

This is going to really a short review as there is not much to say about this add-on. What this extension does is modify the download manager so that your PC (currently only works for Windows) automatically shuts-down once all downloads are done (either completed or failed). This will occur after a one-minute warning count down has lapsed. However, other dialog boxes/alerts such as ‘Save Changes’ may prevent the shutdown for occurring. Fx 3: Downloading Across Sessions Coming

The upcoming Fx 3 M8 (Milestone) release due out later this month will allow users to not only pause and resume downloads, but do so across sessions. Currently, if you are downloading a large file and need to shut-down Firefox your choices are either wait until the file is done downloading or shut down Firefox and lose the file you were downloading. New Fx ‘First Run’ Page

Mozilla has finally updated the page Firefox displays when you launch for the very first time (or start with a new profile). According to Percy at Mozilla Links, “But it happens to be very important for Mozilla’s goal to increase user retention, so a team was formed to improve the previous version and create a new one that highlights a small number of Firefox features: the search bar, extensions, security and tabs.” Percy goes on to say, “I guess everyone has its preferences but I am not sure if tabs should be the first one listed. As of September 1st the new address for The Firefox Extension Guru’s Blog is going to be http://blog.ffextensionguru.com! The old address http://ffextensiongurublog.info will continue to work through early February 2008. We also plan on keeping the ffextensionguru.info address as our discussion forum is hosted on that domain. ffextensionguru.com is just forwarding to the current ffextensionguru.info site. Also coming up this week on September 6th is the one year anniversary of moving the blog over to WordPress from Blogger.
