When I had last checked the Mozilla Releases Calendar earlier yesterday, it had showed Firefox 3.1a1 (Shiretoko) wouldn’t be released until ‘Early August’. Well, Mozilla has turn around and already release the first developer’s milestone, Alpha 1. One of the ‘new’ features in Firefox 3.1 is the new tab switching interface (similar to the Control Tab add-on). I am also been reading, it is going to be much easier to remove bookmarks, history and/or tags from the Smart Location Bar (AwesomeBar) results. Firefox 3.1 is based on the Gecko 1.9.1 rendering engine. Firefox 3.1a1 New Features: Web standards improvements in…

The new and improved Smart Location Bar aka AwesomeBar displays the results a little differently than in Firefox 2. In Firefox 3 each result is displayed on two lines. The favicon followed by the page title in a larger font on the top line, followed by the URL in green below. In Firefox 2 the results were displayed on one line with the page URL followed by the page title. Click the samples below for full-size images: Firefox 3 Default: Smart Location Bar displays results on two lines: Favicon, Page Title; URL in green Firefox 3 with oldbar: Smart Location…

One of the features I like with Windows Vista (yes there are some things I like with Vista) is the improved ALT+TAB interface. With Windows Vista not only can you still switch between windows with ALT+TAB but it shows you a preview of the Window. Now, Firefox does have a tab switcher option by default with CTRL+Tab. But all this does is switch between tabs by bringing the next (or previous if you do CTRL+SHIFT+Tab) into focus. There is no preview interface like I grown so accustom to in Windows Vista. That is until the Control Tab extension: This add-on…
