Cleaning Up Firefox After a Malware Mishap

I have come to the realization now, that I should except any software I download and install to try and sneak bloatware or Malware on to my system. This can be in the form of a browser toolbar or some type of ‘security software’ or Windows optimizer. Avast! has their WebRep extension that is installed into all the browsers on your system. This is suppose to tell you how reputable a site is when you are doing a Google search. Java is partnering now with McCrappy McAfee. Waterfox now serves up a bunch of stuff from AVG unless you go hunting around the custom install…

Close Other Tabs Warning

This has to be one of those rare features that I can say in all my years of using Firefox, I’ve never used or even found a need to use. Talking about the ‘Close Other Tabs’ option in the context menu when right-clicking on a tab. As the name suggests, it close all the other (except App Tabs) tabs while keeping the current one open. Chrome has this feature as well along with an option to close tabs to the right. Apparently some folks rather right-click on a tab and select ‘Close Tab’ instead of clicking the X and these…

Waterfox 15 & AVG

IMPORTANT: Waterfox is an UNOFFICIAL (not supported, affiliated, sponsored, etc.by Mozilla Corp.) 64-Bit redistribution of Firefox for Windows. I am really getting tired of applications trying to sneakily install security software/toolbars. Java and Flash have been doing this with their recent updates. Avast! has their ‘web rep’ plugin that it likes to install on ALL your browsers. The latest offender (and a major one at that) is Waterfox 15. After downloading Waterfox 15 and uninstalling Waterfox 14 (more on this in a bit) I went through the install process. After the initial install screen and selecting where I wanted shortcuts placed I was taken to a screen…

Move Tabs on Top – Option Not In Menu

Not sure when Mozilla removed the ‘Tabs on Top’ option from the Toolbars sub-menu (View > Toolbars) but it is gone for sure in new installs of Firefox 14/15. You can however, still turn off the Tabs on Top option (but the UI is looks a bit odd) via about:config setting: Open a new tab. In the address bar type about:config and press enter (If applicable) Click on the I’ll be careful, I promise… button In the filter box type browser.tabs.onTop Double click on the entry below to change the setting to false Close the tab Update: After some testing it appears the ‘Tabs on Top’…

A USB Toaster

Okay, not exactly the kind of toaster that will turn you bread into well toast. ThinkGeek has come out with a USB Toaster hub along with (each sold separately) 4 different pieces of 4-GB USB toast. The whole set is going to cost you $128 USD (plus tax if applicable) with free shipping (if you spend at least $75 USD). I suppose for some people $128 ($28 for the ‘toaster’ and $25 for each piece of ‘toast’) is just pocket change and/or they just find this too cool. Otherwise, you can get much more space for a whole lot less. About a month ago…

Provider for Google Calendar 0.16 Released and more…

Having one of those mornings…was just trying to do some simple updates on the desktop system and opened a can of worms. The newest version of Flash seems to be crashing in Chrome nonstop, but I am hoping a reboot might fix that issue. Did get the JAVA plugins on this machine updated. On this machine I run Thunderbird Beta as my default Thunderbird build, and it updated to Thunderbird 16 Beta when I checked for updates. During the update process I was warned that earlyLight was not compatible and I tried to check for updates, but none were found….

You a gamer? This review covers much more but highlights the game playing and includes a demo. “Firefox 15 was released on August 28th, one day ahead of schedule. Firefox for Android gets updated and redesigned for tablets

” Tablet support has been sorely missing from the standard builds of Firefox, but has been available in beta for some time already. Today however they’ve officially pushed the fully redesigned tablet support to their actual FireFox for Android app which is now up to version 15. According to the developers at Mozilla they’ve made “dramatic improvements” to the overall design and performance that makes tablet support as delightful as the phone experience. Everything on tablets should be improved from zoom, scrolling, panning, and of course page load times and refresh times. Don’t get me started on Adobe Flash though….
