Microsoft Blocking Windows 11 22H2 Update on Systems using Universal Print Class or Microsoft IPP Class Drivers

Microsoft Corporation 454,46 +2,87 +0,64% is having rough week since the Windows 11 22H2 update release last week. Earlier this week was news the update was being blocked on some Intel based systems running older versions of Intel Corporation 20,83 +0,49 +2,41% Smart Sound Technology (SST) audio drivers. This incompatibility could cause users to get a dreaded BSOD. Shortly after the update was released NVIDIA Corporation 134,70 +4,02 +3,08% GeForce GPU users complained of performance issues. Adding to the list now of systems being blocked from the Windows 11 22H2 update are those with printers using Universal Print Class or Microsoft IPP Class drivers.

On affected systems, some installed printers might only allow customers to use the default settings with features such as color, 2-sided printing, or higher resolutions not being available because of connectivity issues.

“Windows needs connectivity to the printer to identify all the features of the printer. Without connectivity, the printer is set up with default settings and in some scenarios might not get updated once connectivity to the printer is restored,” Microsoft explained.

Again Microsoft is waring affected users NOT to manually download/install Windows 11 22H2 or attempt to bypass this safeguard. Instead either wait for Microsoft to fix this issue or try  removing and reinstalling the printer. By removing and reinstalling the printer Windows will look for an updated driver (or users can try to get a new version from the device manufactures website). If the user is able to install the printer with the newer drivers then the safeguard will be removed allowing them to install the Windows 11 22H2 update. This is the same resolution for the Intel SST issue as well. Also emphasizes the importance of keeping your drivers up-to-date.
