It amazes me, just how many add-ons there are now for Firefox. Because of these add-ons is one of the reasons Firefox has become so popular. Even if you are not a librarian, this article is worth reviewing as you could easily find some very useful add-ons that you didn’t know existed. The 100 add-ons are divided into these 10 categories: Communication Organization Research & Citation Bookmarking Development Media Search Supercharged Browsing Privacy & Security Patrons The article was published on June 18th so most all of these add-ons will work with Firefox 2 as well as with Firefox 3…

On Thursday, June 12th two new versions (3.4.3 & 3.4.4) of AMO were pushed out. As mentioned in the Releases Recap: June Week 2 post, these new versions would have improved search capabilities. I did not have a chance to take a look at the new AMO site until recently. This had kinda gotten pushed back on my to-do list because of the (then upcoming) Firefox 3 release. The Guru and scores of other AMO users have complained about the lack of an Advanced Search feature in the new AMO 3.0.X releases. I mentioned this when I looked at the…
This extension is for those who always want the ‘Go’ button visible in Firefox 3 address bar, but don’t want to be bothered with editing their UserChrome.css as described in the Fx 3: Always Display ‘Go’ Button post. The extension is only for Firefox 3 and is 3 KB (my entire UserChrome.css file is smaller than this extension). Get Show Go!
Within the first 5 hours of the release of Firefox 3, Tipping Point, a research organization for vulnerability analysis and discovery advised they had found a vulnerability. Now before you go adding this to your list of reasons not to download and install Firefox 3, this vulnerability also affects Firefox 2. For security reasons, not much information is being released about this vulnerability other than: Successful exploitation of the vulnerability could allow an attacker to execute arbitrary code. Not unlike most browser based vulnerabilities that we see these days, user interaction is required such as clicking on a link in…
Note: For this tweak I recommend using the ChromEdit Plus extension. Okay, apparently some people do want to have the ‘Go’ Button to always be displayed. To do so, simply add these lines to your userChrome.css file located in your profile folder: /* Always display Go Button */ #urlbar[pageproxystate=”valid”] > #urlbar-icons > #go-button { visibility: visible !important; } Tip Source: I’m Just an Avatar
A couple tweaks that allow you to change the behavior of the location and tab bars while in Full Screen mode. By default when you enter full screen mode (F11) in Firefox 3 the location and tab bars disappear. If you put your mouse up the top of the screen, they will pop back up. If you want the location and tab bars to always display (Firefox 2 behavior) made this change: In a new tab type about:config in the address bar and press enter In the filter field type browser.fullscreen.autohide In the results listed double-click on browser.fullscreen.autohide so that…
Personally, I have never used the Google Browser Sync extension (or anything of Google’s) but I know a lot of folks have. Bad news for you folks, Google has decided to ditch the Google Browser Sync extension. This means it is not going to made available for Firefox 3 and at the end of the year when Firefox 3.1 comes out and 2.0 is retired, Google will stop all support for the extension. Here’s some information via Lifehacker Thanks for trying out Google Browser Sync and for all of your feedback. It was a tough call, but we decided to…

As they did with the release of Firefox 2, Microsoft’s Internet Explorer Team shipped a cake to the Mozilla Headquarters on the release day of Firefox 3. The ‘e’ piece of cake on the right is from the Firefox 2 cake back in October 2006 and has been sitting in a freezer for the past couple years. New Source: Mozilla Links
About an hour ago (10:00 AM PDT/17:00 UTC), after more than 18 months since the first Alpha (December 8th, 2006) was released and nearly 3-years in development Firefox 3 has been released. However, chances are you won’t be able to get it without a bit of wait. Mozilla wanted to get it the Guinness Book of Records for the most downloads within a 24-hour period. As a result all of Mozilla’s servers are overloaded. Earlier it was taking several attempts just to connect to getfirefox.com, however now users are getting a Http/1.1 Service Unavailable error when attempting to connect. When…
