As I am getting caught up in the Firefox Builds forums, came across an odd (and not good) change to Firefox Aurora 11 (11.0a2) and Nightly 12 (12.0a1). A patch related to Bug 376997 makes it so that when an image is viewed by itself (either via right-click > View Image or putting the image URL in the address bar) the image will be centered on a black background. An example can be seen on </Glazblog>. Below is an example I created using Ken Saunders Mozilla Snow Globe image as viewed in Firefox 10 Beta and Firefox 11 Aurora. Viewing…

Well, I didn’t see this coming, mainly because I use the Beta builds as my default Thunderbird build on my desktop machine. I do run the Release version of Thunderbird on my laptop, but since I am on break from school, have not even turned on the laptop this week. On December 23, 2011, Mozilla released an update for Thunderbird 9. Thunderbird 9.0.1, according to the (vague) release notes fixed an issue with Windows XP users not being able to run Thunderbird in some cases. Took a little hunting but this was related to Bug 712960. This is unrelated to…

Windows Only Firefox Nightly Windows (especially those on 64-Bit) users who monitor their tasks/processes may notice extra plugin container processes lingering for quite some time after use. Nightly opens extra plugin containers for additional activities such as viewing a YouTube video, displaying a PDF within the browser, etc. For whatever reason the extra plugin containers don’t get released from memory right away when the user closes the tab or navigates away from the activity. Also, there have been reports that if Nightly is improperly shut down (browser crashes, BSOD, power failure, etc.) that upon restart there will be double the…
An emergency update for Firefox was released today,. Firefox 9.0.1 addresses a crash upon startup after updating to Firefox 9.0 for mainly Mac users. However, Linux and Windows users were not immune to this crash either, just a lot less frequent. For more information see bugs: 711794, 708572 and 335998. This update is available for Windows, Linux and Mac users (Android and tablet users will be staying on Firefox 9.0). Current Firefox 9.0 users go to Help > About Firefox to get the latest update or you can manually update at getfirefox.com.
I am hearing, but can not see any information that there was an update pushed out for Mac users (likely a result of the crash issues upon startup with Firefox 9.0 release) earlier today. Though checking the Mozilla site and FTP site, the latest I am seeing for Mac (and for Windows and Linux) is 9.0.0 release from yesterday. Any Mac users on Firefox 9.0.0 (or even 8.0.1), could y’all go to Help > About Firefox and see if it offers you an update to 9.0.1 build. Update (2:10 PST): Looks like it scheduled for public release later today as…
