A quick follow-up on the How To Uninstall/Downgrade Thunderbird 115 (Supernova) post. Since removing Thunderbird 115 aka Super Nova, I have not experienced any other freezes/crashes on my main machine. Again, that issue appeared to be caused by having repeating events in the calendar.

Received an email today from the folks at Jetpack Social informing me as of April 30th (tomorrow) they will be removing the auto-share functionality to Twitter. First off, being Twitter is the dumpster fire it has been since the changes last year we nuked our Twitter account earlier this month. So losing this functionality is not really a disappointment. The reasons they sited is Twitter’s removing free access to their API and them unable to reach an agreement (which likely means Twitter never even attempt to negotiate with Jetpack Social). The auto-share functionality to Facebook, Tumblr and Linkedin will remain…
Today, is Saturday, April 29th and we have successfully completed the sever migration before our May 1st deadline. There were some minor hiccups along the way, but nothing major. The Gallery did not migrate well and still not sure what the underlying causes were other than the resource intensive template (more so because there was a plugin that went along with the template). We did have about 20-minute span last night where users were getting a certificate warning error. Not sure what happen there as it appears the add-on domain for the blog did not get setup properly in cPanel…
We plan on moving the blog over to the new hosting provider (Host Gator) this weekend. We ran into some troubles earlier today with another WordPress site (The Gallery) which did not want to migrate nicely. After a lot of trial-and-error we narrow down the issue to the theme being used on that site. Once we disabled said theme and switched default we were able to access the site again. We have since updated the theme to use the basic version of the same theme on this site. While it was a pain to redo the theme on The Gallery,…
After euthanizing our Twitter account last week, we have now set an account on Mastodon. Going forward (in theory) new posts should automagically get posted to this account (as they do to our Facebook Page and my personal Linkedin account).
With all the drama in the past few months with Twitter (including Musk labeling NPR as ‘State Affiliated’) we’ve opted to ditch our Twitter account. We are leaving the option to share posts on Twitter. Just be warned you do so as at your own risk and don’t come crying to us if the content of said post ‘upsets’ (no matter how obscure or minor) Elon’s moderation bots and your Twitter account gets banned /s. We are tentatively planning to do the site migration to the new host on Thursday, April 27th, 2023. If things go smoothly (one never knows…
Merry Christmas! Taking a break from regular posting due to holidays and not much news right now. There may be some light posting over the remainder of the year if anything newsworthy comes up this coming week. We expect to resume regular posting after the 1st of the year.
We will be taking a break for the Thanksgiving holiday. We will resume are normal programing…posting on Monday, November 28th. Due to the limited content posted this week, we will not be doing a Weekly Roundup this week. Have a safe and joyful holiday.
A couple quick updates. We have been working with our hosting provider to improve the performance of the blog. Some users have been experiencing slow load times. We’ve enabled some new caching features which should help boost the speed. We have fixed an issue with Tweets embedded within the blog posts were not being formatted correctly. However, this not an automagically retroactively fix, so we are manually going through the posts and fixing the embedded tweets.
Today is Sunday, November 6th: time for the weekly roundup of the good, the bad and the ugly tech news of the week! Plus for those of you who observe Daylight saving time (something we don’t do here in Arizona) time to turn your clocks back an hour if you have forgotten to do so. The Good It is always a good thing when people can find new purposes for old technology. Nothing worse then having old computers end up in a landfill. It could be repurposing an old PC to run as a media center for a non-Smart TV…
