Here are a few of the changes with further details below: New Theme with new images and color pallet. Changed the order of the side bar widgets. Corrected a coding error with the Collapsing Categories widget which was causing the site to display a PHP error. Purged 95% of the ‘Categories’. MIA Posts

So it appears there are still some posts that did not get carried over from the old Firefox Blog. I am discovering this as I am trying to search for content I thought I had posted. I still have the old blog on a private domain for just such an emergency. Over the next couple weeks I am going to start comparing for each month what is on the old Firefox Blog versus what is on the tech blog. I have recently transferred over posts from April 2015 as I was needing to reference a post during this time frame for…

In Memoriam: gareon

It is with a heavy heart I announce my co-author gareon (Gary) recently passed away. I first met Gary online via Delphi Forum GoFirefox! many, many years ago. I even had an opportunity to met him person a few years back while on vacation up in Northern Arizona.  He was Linux and Pale Moon fanatic as you could tell by his posts both on the blog and his forums. He joined me on the Firefox Blog back in February 2010. During the past year, he was posting more than I was on the Firefox Blog which helped keep the blog…

We’re 10!

That’s right 10 years ago today, a Blog was Born! Honestly, I am surprised it has last this long (and I am not just talking about the blog). A lot has happened in the last 10 years in the browser ‘market’. While Internet Explorer is still around (and sadly not by choice for some users who are stuck using IE for certain essential websites), there is a lot more choice in web browsers now. Even Microsoft introduced a new (and crippled) browser with Windows 10. Microsoft Edge, a browser so useless it pushes users over the edge. Netscape is long…

Back to Firefox

About a year ago I had opted to do away with the El Guru’s Blog and post anything tech related on this blog. During the past month I was looking over the content of the blog and notice the majority of the content from the past 9-years (as of May 1st) is Firefox. In April 2009 I split off the Thunderbird content over to the Email Mafia Blog as I wanted to keep the Firefox Extension Guru’s Blog dedicated to Firefox only. In the past year I had come across some none Firefox content I had considered posting, but didn’t because I…

Wiki Removed – New How-To Section

As part of our New Years updating we have decided to remove the Wiki. The biggest reasons were that it duplicated content already on the blog; it was getting too time consuming to maintain/update the wiki application; new content was not being added in a timely matter. As a result a new How-To section has been added to the blog. This page lists all the posts with the category of Tips & Tweaks > How-To and will always be up-to-date. Also on this page is information about editing the userChrome/userContent files, using the built-in preferences manager (about:config) as well as…

New Theme/Features

Over the holidays we finally made some much needed updates to the blog. One of the biggest changes was moving off of the obsolete Weaver theme to the new (and very much improved) Weaver II theme. The color scheme has been updated to more closely match that of out main site. Some other new features and fixes include: When sharing a post on Facebook, the site logo is now the default thumbnail image. Previously Facebook would pick several images from the blog, none of which were the site logo. The correct Favicon should now show in all browsers. Consolidated share…
