Thunderbird 5 will include the Troubleshooting Information panel (Help > Troubleshooting Information) that was introduced in Firefox 3.6. This panel features a button to open your Profile Folder.

A couple years ago I was shadowing another department at my job. The person who I was shadowing that day, taught me about creating bookmark shortcuts using Keywords in Firefox. Of all the things that I learned that day, this had to be the most useful. This works for any version of Firefox and with sites which have a search function and displays the search string in the URL. For this article, I will use Mozilla’s Bugzilla site as I go there quite frequently to look-up Firefox and Thunderbird bugs. There are many cases in the Firefox and Thunderbird Build…
At least not for a while and very likely not in 2011. Firefox 8 is going to be the next trunk (nightly) builds starting July 5th and there is currently no expectation that 64-Bit Windows support is going to part of Firefox 8. For those interested in what is going on behind the scenes, you can follow these tracking bugs: Bug 471090 Bug 558448 One of the main issues is currently the developmental builds for Windows 64-Bit Firefox only support 64-Bit plugins. Because not all Windows plugins provide a 64-bit version, 32-bit versions would also need to be loaded. See…

I’ve been having an odd issue with Thunderbird 5.0, 6.0 and 7.0 developmental builds (Thunderbird 3.1 works fine) breaking on Linux Mint 10 when attempting to override add-on compatibility checking. I’ve posted this on mozillaZine at Thunderbird Builds. I first attempted to manually go into the Config Editor and add the following Boolean entries set to false: extensions.checkCompatibility.5.0b extensions.checkCompatibility.6.0a extensions.checkCompatibility.nightly When I go into the add-ons manager it does show add-on compatibility checking is disabled and I have no add-ons currently installed. I go to install an add-on and restart and I end up with the image below. At first…
Firefox 3.6-6.0 While updating the Wiki came across the old Importing Saved Passwords article which was very much in need of an update. A little searching and found the Password Exporter extension which will allow you to import and/or export your Firefox passwords. You will need to have this extension installed on all copies of Firefox you are going to be working with. Once installed go to Tools > Options > Security Tab and then click the Import/Export Passwords button. Click either Export Passwords or Import Passwords. Warning: Selecting the Obfuscate Usernames/Passwords option will make the raw export file unreadable…
I use the ChromEdit Plus extension a lot and it is one of the first few add-ons (CoLT, Greasemonkey, Photobucket Uploader are others) that I will install on a fresh profile. I was trying to get some screenshots for an upcoming blog article about Clean Firefox Toolbar buttons. I created a new profile in for Firefox via the ProfileManager application and installed ChromEdit Plus. After I restarted Firefox, I added the three buttons I use which come with this add-on, Profile Folder, Restart and ChromEdit. So then I clicked the ChromEdit and pasted in the CSS for the tweak and…
It seems some extension developers did not take Mozilla seriously when the firm release date for Firefox 5 was announced about 2-months ago. As a result these developers have neglected to update their extensions (which will work in Firefox 5) to bump up the maximum supported version. It is important to understand Firefox 4.0 is no longer supported. However, there is no change to the core of Firefox 5.0, 6.0 or 7.0 so add-ons that are already working in Firefox 4.0 will work in these newer versions if forced. The Add-on Compatibility Reporter extension will take care of this for…
