Follow-Up: Attack Page Mishap

A quick follow-up to our Attack Page Mishap earlier this month. We have discovered the compromise was not with WordPress or the WP Backup Plugin, but instead with the ZenPhoto application. I use Zen Photo for the gallery on my elguru.me site. ZenPhoto released an update on 11/11/11 (a couple days after the attack). Unfortunately, unless I am actually in the admin panel there is no way to know if there is an update. However, they do have a feed on their site I was able to subscribe to that is used for updates. The attack itself was not directly caused…

More Default Favicon Choices

In the Replace Firefox Default Favicon post we mentioned a couple User Scripts by Rob64Rock that allowed you to replace the new (and unimproved) default Favicon (now a dashed square) for pages and bookmark that did not have a Favicon. This past weekend I received an email asking if was possible to use the Aurora or Nightly logo with the Firefox Branding Logo as Favicon script on Firefox 8. Electrolysis project on hold

On November 15, 2011, Mozilla announced, the Electrolysis project (e10s) will be placed on hold for the foreseeable future. What exactly is e10s? It is a lot of things that improve the performance, security and even stability of Firefox. The first part of e10s was back with Firefox 3.6.4 (May 2010) with Out Of Process Plugins (OOPP). OOPP introduced the plugin container, which allowed plugins such as Flash, QuickTime, etc to run in their own process away from that of Firefox. OOPP prevented a crashing plugin from taking the entire browser down with it. Also part of the current e10s…

Update: Changes to Firefox for Android UI

As mentioned last month, Mozilla is dropping XUL (eXtensible User interface Language, an XML grammar used by Mozilla to define user interfaces for Firefox and Thunderbird) in favor of using Android’s own Native user interface. Mozilla has now announced “Flash is now a supported plugin in forthcoming native Firefox for Android.” This despite the fact that Adobe announced on November 9th, 2011 it is discontinuing Flash development on mobile platforms. To clarify though, by “forthcoming native Firefox for Android” Mozilla means Firefox for Android 11 (release date:…

Thunderbird 3.1 Support Ending April 2012?

As mentioned today on our Firefox Blog, support for Firefox 3.6 will be likely ending in late April 2012. However, the Enterprise/Thunderbird/ExtendedSupport has not been refined yet. It still states, We intend to conclude on this subject within two weeks in order to be able to offer Thunderbird ESR 1.0 at the same time that Thunderbird 8 or 9 is released. Thunderbird 3.1 will be declared end-of-life 12 weeks after the release of Thunderbird ESR 1.0.
