Earlier this week Scott McGregor announced he was leaving Mozilla Corp. Now comes the announcement David Bienvenu, the only other Thunderbird Developer is also leaving on October 12th: Just wanted to let everyone know that my last day at The Mozilla Corporation will be Oct. 12. I intend to stay involved with Thunderbird and to continue on as a module owner. I’ve enjoyed working at Mozilla a lot, and I wish Mozilla Co and the new Mail Co all the best. As Percy points out in his article, Thunderbird is after all an open-source project. This means anyone can work…
This morning I mentioned in my More Troublesome Thunderbird News post that there not being announcements from Mitchell Baker or even David Ascher. Earlier today David Ascher dropped by and left this comment and invitation: Hi — i did blog about it this morning on my own blog — I don’t have much to say about Scott & David’s departure, but I have lots to say about MailCo and thunderbird. see http://ascher.ca/blog/2007/10/06/open-letter-to-the-thunderbird-community/ As I mention in that blog, I’m keen to hear from anyone in the Thunderbird community.

A little over a week ago I posted a tweak which would allow you to View OpenOffice.org Docs in Fx. Based on some of the feedback from comments and e-mails I’ve gotten on this, a lot of people didn’t understand what this tweak did or it wasn’t working. I had got it to work when I opened an OpenOffice.org document from my local system. However, when I tried to open a document from a remote system (website) Firefox wanted to download and open the file in OpenOffice. After a little tweaking, I’ve discovered there is one more step. When you…
On a short note, Scott McGregor, Thunderbird lead engineer, announced that on October 12 he will leave the Mozilla Corporation to pursuit other career interests. He plans, however, to continue his role as module owner for Thunderbird as a volunteer. This not a good sign for the future development of Thunderbird when the lead engineer leaves Mozilla Corp. I am beginning to wonder if Mozilla has a death sentence for Thunderbird. First back in July there was the “announcement” but then there was some good news with the announcement of the Thunderbird Mail Corporation. Now the lead project engineer announces…
Really, they do. Running an unregistered/illegal copy of Windows? Removed the Windows Genuine Authority (WGA) adware crap for your system? No problem! Microsoft will let you download and install IE7. Form the Internet Exploiter Explorer Blog: Because Microsoft takes its commitment to help protect the entire Windows ecosystem seriously, we’re updating the IE7 installation experience to make it available as broadly as possible to all Windows users. With today’s “Installation and Availability Update,” Internet Explorer 7 installation will no longer require Windows Genuine Advantage validation and will be available to all Windows XP users. If you are not already running…

Could it be a sign that there is a major consumer resistance to migrating to Windows Vista? Last week Microsoft extended the cut-off date for Windows XP sales. Microsoft says this was brought on by consumer feedback. With the extension, major computer makers will be allowed to continue offering Windows XP through June 30, 2009. For the smaller makers though, the cut-off is still January 30, 2009. However the Windows XP Starter Edition which is available on ‘ultra-low-cost’ PC’s will be available through June 30, 2010.
