We are moving a step closer to the next milestone for Thunderbird 2, the Beta 1 release. Release Candidate for beta 1 is now available in en-US build only via Mozilla FTP Server. Estimated release date for Thunderbird 2.0b1 is December 14th. News Source: mozillaZine Forums Thunderbird Builds
This Friday, December 8th is the Community Testing Day for Firefox 15.0.9/2.0.0.1 along with Thunderbird 1.5.0.9/2.0b1. Also Firefox 2.0.0.1 RC1 is now on the nightlies directory. I noticed today my ‘about screen’ no longer shows as Bon Echo 2.0.0.1 Pre, just Bon Echo 2.0.0.1 The estimated release date for Firefox 1.5.0.9/2.0.0.1 (this may also include Thunderbird 1.5.0.9/2.0b1 builds as well) is Thursday, December 14th. Keep in mind this date is not set in stone and could likely change depending on the outcome of Friday’s testing day. News Source: mozillaZine Forums Firefox Builds
High performance gaming machines with their multiple GB of RAM, fast processors and very high-end video cards tend to run a lot hotter than your normal PC. Traditionally, most PC’s use a couple 90mm fans to keep the insides cool. Meet the Antech Nine Hundred which comes standard with four fans. 3 120mm (1 rear mounted and 2 front mounted blue LED) fans AND a 200mm top mounted fan. If that is still not enough cooling power for you, it has mounts for 2 more 120mm fans for cooling video card or a processor. Even with the four to six…
So you ask what’s the big deal about this extension? Simply put it adds ‘Create TinyURL for this Page’ to the context menu. When you select this option a small pop-up window opens giving the TinyURL which is automagically copied to the clipboard and the option to Goto the URL, Save It or Close the window. It also adds its own menu into the Tools Menu. In a nut shell, no having to copy the page address, switching over to TinyURL, pasting the address, copying the TinyURL and switching back to paste the TinyURL. The TinyURL Creator works with Firefox…
Much to my amazement my post: Firefox 2.0: Close Tab Buttons is still the most viewed and commented of my 200+ posts. I have setup another Firefox 2 ‘Close Tab’ Button Poll on the CyberNet Forums. You need not be a registered user to vote or for that matter to join in on the discussion. However registration is free and once registered you will no longer see the ads. While you are there take a look around, lots of great information from Windows Vista & Office 2007 to Gaming Consoles (PS3 vs Wii) to PC Software (Freeware & Paid).
Four Firefox Flicks 30-second TV commercials will be airing soon in Boston and San Francisco areas. However, you can see the four videos just by clicking on the thumbnails below. All of these were made by Firefox users and very well done. Note: High speed connection needed and even then you may want to download the videos (4 to 8 MB) for best performance. Tuesday, November 28th has come and gone. Not surprisingly there was not a milestone release (Alpha 1) for Firefox 3. In fact there has not been any talk about the Firefox 3a1 (now missed) release, not even at Wednesday’s Firefox 3 Status Meeting. However Ryan at CyberNet did alert me to an announcement made Thursday in regards to the tree being closed for the Gecko 1.9 Alpha release. So there may be a release in the works still, but Mozilla is keeping quiet about it.
Back in August 2006, a group students from Oregon State University Linux Group created the ‘Firefox Circle‘ in an oat field near amity Oregon. The crop circle has made it to Google Maps now. For some odd reason Firefox likes to resize images automatically so they will “fit in the browser window”. I have found this rather annoying and was glad to discover there is an about:config tweak to prevent this. Thanks to Ryan at CybertNet Forums for this here tip: In a new tab type about:config in the address bar or open the about:config editor Copy and paste browser.enable_automatic_image_resizing into the filter field Double-click the entry to change it to false Close tab or about:config editor and changes will take effect right-away. This tweak works with Firefox builds/versions 1.5.0.X, 2.0.0.X and 3.0a1pre. Ryan…
I’ve been so busy this past week with work I have not had a chance to keep up on the latest Firefox/Mozilla news. Earlier this week a major vulnerability was exposed for Firefox 1.5.0.8, 2.0, 2.0.0.1pre (not sure about 3.0a1pre) and SeaMonkey 1.0.6: “A vulnerability in Firefox handling of saved passwords has been announced today. The vulnerability allows Firefox to autofill saved credentials no matter where they are being submitted. As shown in a test case attached to the relevant bug, as long as similar forms are published in the same web site credentials are retrieved. Robert Chapin, the original…
