Yesterday I mentioned the Firefox 2.0 default theme had been changed. Well, they decided to change it again today with tonight’s build. For a quick comparison of what is different today versus yesterday take a look at the article over on CyberNet Tech News. A couple comments: I am glad they did away with the blue folders in the bookmarks menu, those were just too much. It looked like a child designed the icon (or at least the same group who did the icons for DelphiForums). Many folks don’t like the new ‘house’ icon for the home page. From what…
[digg=http://digg.com/software/Adobe_Acrobat_vs_FoxIt_Reader] Adobe Acrobat Reader is a powerful but space and resource hogging application which few users are going to utilize to its fullest potential. But there is an alternative and even better it is free! Foxit Reader 2.0 works just as well as Adobe Acrobat but doesn’t have the ton of plugins to load which on older and slower systems could prove fatal. CyberNet Tech News has done a nice review of the new Foxit 2.0 Reader. In case you are wondering, this program works beautifully with Firefox and even more so when paired with the PDF Download Extension (which…
The 2006091104 nightly build of Firefox 2.0 contains an updated version of the new and improved default theme. The buttons appear to be a little brighter now and they did a little bit of a make-over (still needs work though) on the ‘home’ button. For a preview and link to the latest nightly build see the CyberNet News article, Firefox 2 Gets Some More Theme Updates. Note if you do install this nightly, it is going to install under the project name Bon Echo Beta 2 instead.
I’ve recently read in blog entry (taking a step backward) about folks who love the new functionality of Firefox 2.0b1/2, but who can’t live without their favorite extensions from 1.5.0.X which are not yet compatible in Firefox 2.0b1/2. Simple solution is the Nightly Tester Tool extension. This extension once installed will allow you to ‘make compatible’ most extensions that currently do not work in (or were never designed for) a newer version of Firefox (also works for Thunderbird). Now, a word of caution…while MOST extensions seem to work fine when forced to work with Firefox 2.0b2, some may not. I…
I mentioned in my Using Firefox 2.0b2 As Default Browser post, CyberNet Tech News has a great article on Firefox 2.0 Tweaks. Although Firefox 2.0 Beta 1 is in the title, all tweaks apply to the current release of Firefox 2.0. The article shows demonstrations of the new Inline Spellcheck (no more SpellBound) and Undo Close Tabs* features. Tweaks are done by editing Firefox’s about:config and include: Session Restore Crash Recovery or restore the browser from when you closed Note: This feature became available in the ‘Options…’ (via Tools Menu) with the release of Beta 2 How to disable or…
Firefox 1.5.0.7, the next release in the Firefox 1.5 build series has been delayed from the prior release date of September 7th to September 12th. UPDATE: Firefox 1.5.0.7 was released on 09/14/06! See this entry for more details. Updated: 09/14/06
As Murphy’s Law goes, “Anything that can go wrong, will go wrong.” This is especially true when you are trying to do a live product demonstration. From my friends over at CyberNet Tech News: Windows Demonstrations That Have Gone Wrong features four You Tube videos including: The infamous Windows Vista Speech ‘Wreck-ognition’ Why Windows 98 wasn’t release ‘Yet’ Bill Gates on Conan Plus a bonus video of MacWorld Bloopers One word of caution, DO NOT attempt to drink and watch these videos at the same time!!!
Another former Microsoft executive has moved on. From Todd Bishop’s Blog on the Seattle Post Intelligencer. Mozilla, the company behind Firefox, has hired a former Microsoft security strategist, Window Snyder. This news comes just days after it was announced Microsoft’s Brian Valentine, senior vice president in charge of Windows development, is leaving to join Amazon.com.
For those who came here when I first announced the move, you may have notice several different theme changes. Yes, I’ve been experimenting and have been changing themes quite frequently. Been trying to find a theme that works well in design, content display as well as sidebar display. I decided the two column side bars were a bit much and found a nice simple theme. I also removed the archives widget from the sidebar as the past posts can be accessed via the calendar on the top right. This should (unless something new and exciting comes out) should be the…
Last week I tried out My Way and while at first was impressed, it is just not working very well. Especially the My Way Mail which claims I have messages yet they are no where to be found. It almost seems as if I don’t go to my In Box within a certain amount of time, my e-mails disappear. I am keeping it active for now and see if this improves or if these ‘phantom’ e-mails suddenly show-up. But I have ended up switching most of my e-mail subscriptions back over to Yahoo.
