In a way I kind of find this ironic as back around this time in 2015 Microsoft had started their ‘Nag Campaign‘ to get users of Windows 7 and 8.1 devices to take advantage of the ‘free upgrade’ to Windows 10. As the year progressed Microsoft got more and more aggressive with the Get Windows 10 (GWX) campaign even as going as far as to install malware via KB3035583 a (recommended) Windows Update and changing the behavior of the red X on the upgrade screen in late 2016 (something Microsoft sort of apologized for doing). Word comes now that Microsoft…

Not sure which is worse Elon Musk at the helm of Twitter or Microsoft Corporation 425,43 +5,25 +1,25% trying to force people from Windows 10 to Windows 11. On April 27th, Microsoft provided a “Windows client roadmap update” which basically says Windows 10 is now a dead-end and since 22H2 was the last feature update there is nothing to see here. More over, Microsoft’s ‘recommendation’ says “We highly encourage you to transition to Windows 11 now as there won’t be any additional Windows 10 feature updates.”. There’s a couple problems with said recommendation: Many people are unable to ‘transition’ to…
Microsoft has announced the Windows 10 22H2 feature update is the last for Windows 10 (so no Windows 11 23H1 or 23H2). There will still be patches and security updates through the end of life (October 2025) for Window 10, just no new features. Seems I am not the only one in the boat of not liking Windows 11. Though to be fair, I only worked with it for a few hours. Perhaps it was the laptop, but still even a basic laptop ($500 USD) shouldn’t be chocking on YouTube videos with nothing else open (other than whatever crap Microsft…
Microsoft Corporation 425,43 +5,25 +1,25% has been living up to their promise to add new Window 11 (22H2) features as they “become ready”. Now comes a phased roll-out to Windows Insiders in the Dev Channel for the new an improved Snipping Tool version 11.2211.35.0 adding the ability to record a portion of your screen. “You will then be able to select and refine the part of your screen that you want to record before starting your screen recording session,” Windows Inbox Apps Principal Product Manager Lead Dave Grochocki explained. “When you are finished, you can preview your recording before saving…
Sometime in the near future Windows 11 users will be able to Filter for processes within the Windows Task Manager. Currently this feature is being tested on the Windows 11 Insider builds and no word yet when it will roll out to all Windows 11 users. “This is a helpful feature if you want to single out a process or a group of processes and want to take action or just monitor the performance of the filtered processes.” While there is some lag to the input and the text field needs to be a bit bigger, from BleepingComputer’s tests, the…

As if the Windows Search taskbar tip flyouts were not bad enough, Microsoft is reportedly testing advertising their own products/service via the Windows 11 Sign-out menu. Again this appears to be targeted to select groups of people who have the Windows Insiders Builds for Windows 11 installed. Microsoft sign-out ads (Albacore) I have on occasion while visiting Bing while using Chrome have gotten ‘an ad’ from Microsoft to use Microsoft Edge. To be honest this wasn’t as bad as I thought it was going to be when I saw the article come across my feed. There ‘ads’ are very subtle and blend…
Earlier this week Microsoft began testing a new feature for some English speaking and US based Windows Insiders who have installed the latest Windows 11 Dev build. The new ‘feature’ which will display flyout tips in the task bar letting them know they can search their PC and the web from the taskbar. Microsoft is now testing a new way to help Windows 11 users get more out of its Windows Search by displaying tip flyouts in the taskbar. Starting today, Windows 11 will display tips prodding Windows Insiders who have installed the latest Windows 11 Dev build to search their…
