Some folks (such as Paul Thurrott) are not that thrilled with the new theme for Firefox 2. Personally, I like the new look as it is bold, yet simple and refreshing. But for those of you who would rather keep the familiar Firefox 1.5 theme, I have bad news, Mozilla no longer provides that theme for Firefox 2. But, thanks to Ryan at CyberNet News you can find a link to the old Firefox 1.5 theme in his article >> Don’t Forget: The Firefox 1.x Theme Is Always Available. If you are wanting to check out some other themes for…

Note: Once again to prove I am not bias about Firefox 2.0, here is another (but not so great) review. I sure don’t think so but apparently, Paul Thurrott, author of Windows SuperSite does. Found a link to his mini review: Mozilla Ships Firefox 2.0 … It’s a Dud at WindowsITPro via CyberNet News. Today, Mozilla will officially unveil Firefox 2.0, the latest version of its Web browser and, increasingly, a credible challenger to Microsoft’s Internet Explorer (IE). Unfortunately, some of Firefox’s more trend-setting features have been delayed to a later release, and the new release suffers as a result….
[digg=http://digg.com/software/Firefox_2_0_Tips_Tweaks] Now that Firefox 2 has been released I thought it would be nice if all the tweaks I have written about in the past couple months (and beyond) were in one easy place. So listed belows are links to all my Firefox 2 Tweaks entries as well as a link to CyberNet News for a tweak I did not cover. From time to time I will update this list as more tweaks are added. This list was last updated on 01/01/08. Add-Ons & Download Managers in Sidebar – Opens Add-Ons & Download Managers in sidebar instead of pop-up window….
Mozilla has OFFICIALLY released Firefox 2 to the getfirefox.com site. If you are wishing to link to the Firefox 2 download please use the above link. Please not link to the FTP server as it is not designed to accommodate the massive amount of traffic that would be directed via a hot-link.
Starting with Firefox 2.0, Session Restore allowed you to restore your Firefox session to exactly the way it was prior to the browser crashing. It can also be changed to work like Session Saver and Tab Mix Plus, in that when you reopen the browser it will be exactly the way it was when you closed it last. This use to be an about:config tweak, but has since been placed in the options menu. To have Firefox to restart where you were when you last closed it: From Firefox Tools Menu select Options… From Main in the Startup section, When…
I have said a lot about Firefox 2, but in case you are wanting a “second opinion”, check out Percy Cabello’s post at Mozilla Links: “After eleven months in development Firefox 2 is expected to be released tomorrow. As of this writing, Release Candidate 3 released last week will just be renamed to Firefox 2 and so be it. You can get Firefox 2 (on late Tuesday 24).Since its first release, back in November 1.0, the web browsers landscape has changed a lot. Competition is back and security, performance and features are again topics when talking about web browsers. Internet…
Firefox 2, no longer allows you to enable SSL 2 encryption protocols due to the fact SSL 2 is not very secure. However, some folks may run into sites that insist you have SSL 2 Protocol enabled. Once again a simple about:config change: In a new tab type about:config in the address bar and press enter or open the about:config editor if you have the extension In the filter field enter security.enable_ssl2 Double click the entry so the value is true Close the tab or about:config editor Permalink
Earlier today, Mozilla put Firefox 2 out on the FTP servers! Now keep in mind this really a pre-release to get the download mirrors ready. The official release on the product page (getfirefox.com) will not be updated until Tuesday around 6:00 PM PDT. Also, the FTP server is overload and/or restricted at the moment so here are some alternative ways to get your hands on Firefox 2 if you cain’t wait: Ryan at CyberNet News >> Download Firefox 2 – Just Released has his download widget for Firefox 2. Select your language and click the button for your OS to…
The new inline spell checker introduced with Firefox 2 is set by default only to check multi-line text areas. What this means is if the text area is a single line (example on Delphi Forums, message and poll titles are a single line text area) you must manually select Spell check this field from the context menu. This can be fixed with a simple modification to about:config. Click the about:config button (if about:config extension is installed) or open a new tab and type about:config in the address bar and press enter In the filter field type layout.spellcheckDefault Double-click on the…
I found this info on the Firefox Builds board on mozillaZine. Some of you may recall from Firefox 1.5.0.* builds the download manager would keep a history of your downloads. By default it would retain this history until you choose to clear the list or if you changed the settings via a menu option. Due to possible performance issues associated with having long download list, Firefox 2 by default clears the list as soon as the download is completed. You can change this option by going to Tools -> Options -> Privacy and checking Remember what I’ve downloaded. However there…
