Windows Live Hotmail

I’ve been a Windows Live Mail Beta (@live.com) user for a while now. So far it has been the best of the web based e-mail clients I have used. I’ve used Lycos, MyWay, Yahoo and even Hotmail in the past but the accounts always become bombarded with spam. Even with the spam protection enabled I still get up to 10+ spam e-mails in my Yahoo Mail INBOX on a daily basis. The only downside, since Windows Live Mail is a Microsoft product, I have to use IE Tab for the messages to display correctly. Sometime in the near future, Windows…

Blockbuster Super Bowl Commercial

Since I waiting for this DNS issue to resolve itself, I am holding off on posting any other major Firefox/Mozilla News. So, a little something different. I am one of those people who are more interested in the Super Bowl Commercials than the game itself (although this year’s was a really great game). One my favorites is the Blockbuster Commercial for Blockbuster Total Access… [youtube=http://youtube.com/watch?v=lamqPTAMFBg] YouTube: Blockbuster Super Bowl Commercial

Permalinks & Domain

I am in the process of getting my new domain, www.ffextensiongurublog.info setup with the blog. I have been experiencing some issues with the DNS servers tonight so the new domain may not be working for some people. Hopefully this will clear itself up shortly, but may take up to 48 hours for some of the servers to update. Once the DNS issues are resolved you should be able to access the blog using the new www.ffextensiongurublog.info address. With the new domain name setup, the address in the address bar remains static regardless of where in the blog you are. Because…

Fx 3a2 & Gecko 1.9a2 Released

The next developers milestone for Firefox 3, Alpha 2 has been released. It is important to note this release is only for web developers and the Mozilla testing community. Also important Gecko 1.9 does not support the following out-dated OS’s, Win95, Win98, WinMe, and Mac OS 10.2. Some new feature with this release: Resolved remaining issues with ACID2 test compliance. Support for the Web Apps 1.0 API for changing stylesheets. XML documents can now be rendered as they’re downloaded instead of only after the full document has been loaded. Greatly improved Mac widgets support since Alpha 1. Improvements in the…

An Update on Major Update

Skimming through the notes from yesterdays Mozilla Weekly Update meeting I did notice a brief mention on the Major Update feature: “Major update still scheduled for 1-2 weeks after the release of 1.5.0.10/2.0.0.2” As it stands now the tentative release date for the 1.5.0.10/2.0.0.2 builds is February 15th. However, given the difficulties in getting this release out, chances are this will end up being pushed back. There are still two major bugs blocking these releases. The developers had hoped to have these bugs fixed by last Thursday (02/01/07) so the RC could be released later that week. Then that was…

Fx 1.5.0.10 & 2.0.0.2 Status

At the time of this post, the Mozilla Weekly Update Meeting is still in progress. But there is some news (good and bad) I wanted to write about now for these future Fx releases. The bad new is there are still two bugs the developers are trying to get patched for this release: Arbitrary code execution by using javascript: url with <img> tag. menupopup.showPopup() can be abused The good news is all the Vista bugs, including Yahoo! IM and default browser (thanks to Robert Strong) are patched and ready to go. Even better the fix for the Firefox Password Manager…

Netscape 9 Announced

Per the Netscape Blog, Netscape 9 is in the developmental stages now. Much like Netscape 8, it is going to be browser only, it will not have Mail or Composer which were last included with Netscape 7.2 back in August 2004. However, unlike Netscape 8, this version will be released for Mac OS X and Linux as well as Windows. A few more details, this will be based on Firefox 2 (Gecko 1.8), include Live Bookmarks, Netscape Friends’ Activity Sidebar and Netscape Sitemail Notifier. I have no idea when this is going to be released but I am guessing late…

Fx & Windows Vista

Part of the reason the Fx 1.5.0.10/2.0.0.2 releases are being delayed may be attributed to the developers wanting to do more testing with Windows Vista. Today was the Windows Vista Community Test Day and there is plenty of information on the Mozilla Wiki. Since I am not a Windows Vista user, most (okay may be more like all) of this is Greek to me! But from what I can tell, the developers are trying to make sure the future releases of Firefox are going to work smoothly with Windows Vista. Permalink
