It started simple enough, I was being asked on the CyberNet Forum why on my Tweaks Site I indicated the Pause/Restrict/Disable Animated GIFs tweak did NOT work with Firefox 3. The poster indicated it worked fine for them. I remember when I setup the tweak section I wrestled with this one as not all of the tweak worked with Firefox 3. Yes, you could press escape to stop the animated GIF. However the about:config tweak does not fully work with Firefox 3. The ‘once’ setting behaved the same as the ‘none’ setting. Thunderbird has taken the honour of taking 43rd place in PC World’s: The 100 Best Products of 2008 Award. What I find a bit odd (besides being sandwiched between the Rock Band controllers and the Dell XPS 420) is there is a link to a PC World review in the list. The PC World review titled T-Bird E-Mail App a Winner is from January 27, 2005 and is a review of Thunderbird 1.0 (current released version is 2.0 and prior was 1.5). Oh well, as David Ascher put it, “I can’t wait to see where we land in 2009…“
Firefox 3 has taken the honour of taking 21st place in PC World’s: The 100 Best Products of 2008 Award. Unlike Thunderbird, the review for Firefox 3 is a little more current, even if it is for Beta 1 (release November 2007). On an interesting side note, Flock took 6th place and was the top in the browser category. Flock is based off of Firefox 2 with the integration of several social networking and other web services. At today’s Firefox 3 Status meeting, it was announced there would be a second release candidate (RC) in early June. Here’s the scoop from Mozilla Links: RC2 will fix about a couple of dozen bugs including some top crashers, some affecting performance and localization related. Most of the bugs already have patches waiting for review or landing and the revised code is expected for tomorrow, with initial builds available on Thursday. QA will start the same day and last for about a week. Look for Firefox 3 RC 2 to be released on/around Friday, June 6th.
