In the Replace Firefox Default Favicon post we mentioned a couple User Scripts by Rob64Rock that allowed you to replace the new (and unimproved) default Favicon (now a dashed square) for pages and bookmark that did not have a Favicon. This past weekend I received an email asking if was possible to use the Aurora or Nightly logo with the Firefox Branding Logo as Favicon script on Firefox 8. I contacted Rob64Rock and he sent me the link to scripts he has created which will use the Aurora or Nightly logo as the default Favicon regardless of which version of…

Firefox 10 Aurora (release date January 31st, 2012) has added some new integrated web development tools. Some of these look similar to the current Firebug extension. For more details see Firefox to get more powerful web development tools on mozilla links.
On November 15, 2011, Mozilla announced, the Electrolysis project (e10s) will be placed on hold for the foreseeable future. What exactly is e10s? It is a lot of things that improve the performance, security and even stability of Firefox. The first part of e10s was back with Firefox 3.6.4 (May 2010) with Out Of Process Plugins (OOPP). OOPP introduced the plugin container, which allowed plugins such as Flash, QuickTime, etc to run in their own process away from that of Firefox. OOPP prevented a crashing plugin from taking the entire browser down with it. Also part of the current e10s…
As mentioned last month, Mozilla is dropping XUL (eXtensible User interface Language, an XML grammar used by Mozilla to define user interfaces for Firefox and Thunderbird) in favor of using Android’s own Native user interface. This move was to increase performance and handling of Firefox on Android devices. Mozilla has now announced “Flash is now a supported plugin in forthcoming native Firefox for Android.” This despite the fact that Adobe announced on November 9th, 2011 it is discontinuing Flash development on mobile platforms. To clarify though, by “forthcoming native Firefox for Android” Mozilla means Firefox for Android 11 (release date:…

As mentioned today on our Firefox Blog, support for Firefox 3.6 will be likely ending in late April 2012. However, the Enterprise/Thunderbird/ExtendedSupport has not been refined yet. It still states, We intend to conclude on this subject within two weeks in order to be able to offer Thunderbird ESR 1.0 at the same time that Thunderbird 8 or 9 is released. Thunderbird 3.1 will be declared end-of-life 12 weeks after the release of Thunderbird ESR 1.0. Given that Firefox (though not yet official) has decided to make Firefox 10 the first ESR, it would seem logical that Thunderbird would follow…
Some new developments since the Firefox 3.6 Support Ending Early 2012 article was posted last month. The Enterprise/Firefox/ExtendedSupport:Proposal has been more refined now. If the assumption that the first Firefox ESR is going to be based of off Firefox 10 (release date January 31st, 2012) then allowing for a 12-week ‘grace period’ would put the end date of Firefox 3.6 support on April 24th, 2012 (also the date Firefox 12 will be released). This also 13-months after the release (March 21, 2011) of Firefox 4, twice the support time of the standard 6-month after release of next major version time…
Bad_Attitude commented about the Starting with a Fresh Profile post. They mentioned that they move their Greasemonkey and Stylish scripts as well. I am not really certain what percentage of Firefox users use Greasemonkey and/or Stylish scripts and didn’t even think about porting those over. I do use many Greasemonkey scripts and may be one or two Stylish scripts. So, I’ve added directions on how to move over your Greasemonkey and/or Stylish scripts. In the Starting Over section I’ve added a new step which involved installing and using the eCleaner add-on prior to installing new add-ons. Since users are porting…
